Camping in Dark Forest with Woodstove & Hot Tent

Join me as I spend two days in the dark forest solo camping in my tent with a woodstove to keep me warm. I use my drone to find a dense forest that would make a good camping spot. I hike just over half a mile to the camp and setup shelter for the night, cook some good food and enjoy the time alone in the woods. That’s my first and only hot tent (It’s a version 3. I also have the ground sheet with fire resistant floor attached, it helps keep things dry in the stove room. I replaced the center pole with two adjustable poles on the stove end ( I’m sure sticks would work. They follow the walls of the tent. So much nicer without the center pole. Also picked up an inexpensive stove mat to protect the tent floor from the odd jumping spark. If you’re spending a lot of time in it a crazy creek style chair will save your back. Just a couple things I’ve figured out using it weekly 6months a year over the last few years.

I watched outdoor boys and a bloke in the woods. I recommend you watch their videos for ideas on editing. I find it hard to watch your videos because your editing makes us feel like you are inserting unrelated B shots into your main story with some night shots interspersed into your main story line even though your story line is still in daylight mode. I hope you will take this critique in a constructive way. All the best with your videos.

We winter camp a lot but this year have opted for a gas stove inside the tent. Naturehike stove and have had 8 hours plus of heat on low. Portable fire pit for cooking still as we love a fire. Some condensation but removes the problem of restarting the wood stove during the night and less disturbed sleep. Good video

heat a liter of water up to 60-70 c and pour into a bottle. Stuff the bottle into a sock, then into your sleeping bag 20 minutes before you go to sleep. The sock makes it stay warm longer and prevent burning your feet. Be carefull if the bottle is plastic, it might not be able to handle boiling water.

Your tent is a Backwoods Bungalow with a stone extention, looks good, plenty of space to store firewood.
Its difficult to get a simmer on a tent stove, I have found that resting the pan on a couple of those triangle shaped tent pegs kind of works but there must be better methods

I wonder if you brought a large pot of water to boil, something to act as the thermal mass, if it would help keep the tent warm for a little while after you put out the fire I wonder how long it could radiates heat inside I got to say that tent is amazing.

You're lucky to have a garage to be able to dry and air your tent as that's a luxury.
I thought it would be a longer camp as the title says it's 2 days. The reality is it's only one as you leave earlier than the time you arrived the previous day.

I was out this past weekend at a national forest. Had coyotes yipping and howling all around me. Was okay, not unnerving. However, those deer making that grunting noise.
Well, to paraphrase that wise man Jeremy Clarkson. Poo will come out!

I have the same pomoly tent and pretty much the same pomoly stove. One issue that I had when I took it out in the rain lately was how much condensation I got on the inside of the tent. Did you stay dry or did you wake up pretty wet

Where did you go
What layers are you wearing
What are the brands you're using
Just some details with what you are using, please!
An episode of base layers and brands please.

Hi Mike. I like your videos and I was going to ask you what the TA means in TA Outdoors and now I don't have to because it comes from Totally Awesome Fishing that I found in your website. Totally Awesome Videos. Cool beans.

Very cool, warmth plus somewhat stealthy is a valuable combo. How sure can you be that the spark arrester will prevent an errant ember from reaching the tent Or is it that plus the length of the chimney that you're relying on

I have this same tent, have had it for a couple of years now. I do really like this tent, I will say, be careful of the zippers for the awning. They really like to get stuck on the side flaps A LOT!

Really like the spot and the setup. temperatures are finally dropping so hoping that the humidity will go down. Low temps and high humidity is not a nice combo, feels colder that it really is.

Nice to see your cooking has improved mike! Nice stodgy meal for the cold weather very nice. Great to see you back out mate. That set up is great. Looking forward more of your ventures out.

You got me googling when you were calling. What in America we call a stew you call a casserole and what we call a casserole you call a gratin or a bake. Love this video that’s a cool tent.

Hi Mike where did you get your carbon monoxide detector from Don't suppose you would kno if it suitable to use with an diesel heater setup on my camper Cheers great video btw
reply

G'day. I have the exact same tent. I have taped a plastic drop sheet on the partition between the tent and stove. Stops the smoke and carbon but allows the radiant heat through.
