Inside the world-famous FAIRMONT BANFF SPRINGS HOTEL (Canada): impressions & review Ian Hamilton: WOW thank you What a trip down memory lane. Spent the year 1980 working as a waiter in the Alhambra serving lunch to Japanese tour groups and the evening in the Rob Roy - which, at the time, featured the finest Alberta AAA beef and chops. We were taught a hybrid of French service with Chateaubriands carved at the table, and Flambes for desserts. Had the great honour to serve Mr Ivor Petrak on most nights, and I believe many years later the Rob Roy is now the Ivor Petrak room. What a great teacher he was as the legendary GM of The Springs. He did so much for the hotel and opening Alberta and British Columbia to Asian guests. And I am told he knew about the staff fire pit out past the golf course which, to a legion of young English and French Canadians where debauchery and shenanigans took place almost nightly. To say nothing of the day I dropped a soup on a Japanese guest at lunch one day and Mr Petrak asked me about it at dinner - thought I would have a massive coronary right then and there at the ripe age of 20, but he let it slide. RIP Mr Petrak. If you're looking at this video and inspired, its well worth the visit. Thank you for this.

Many, many, many thanks for this video, you helped me heal from an addictive past Let me explain: Approx 17 years ago (as of this writing, I was under a quite destructive addiction while living in Calgary. A fellow addict and myself visited Banff and this hotel. Regretfully those memories are quite hazy, so I cannot remember too much of that visit. With this video those memories have been rewritten for me Even through tears of healing the hotel is still a gem in the Rocky Mountains - as is Banff I truly hope one day that I'll be able to stay there so I can witness the sights and smells of that wonderful hotel and town - and heal even more Once again - thank you for the video Now if you don't mind I have to get some tissues so I can clear the clouds in my eyes.

I'm disappointed now. My wife and I just got back from Banff two days ago and I didn't realize that non guests of the hotel were allowed to roam around inside. I went into the lobby, took videos and looked at a few of the stores on the main level. I felt like I wasn't supposed to be there, so I left quickly. Having said that, the hotel is absolutely breathtaking when you first drive up to it. Photos or videos don't do it justice in comparison to seeing it live. The entire town of Banff is incredible. A miniature city, hidden away in the Canadian rockies. A family could easily spend an entire day just wandering around the town, taking in the sights.

As has been said by others, Banff is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. We just finished staying at the Fairmont hotels in Jasper, Lake Louise and Banff - all exquisite and all quite different. And yes, the gold floor staff makes your visit feel like a dream. And while the hotels were wonderful, they pale in comparison to the Rocky Mountains. Maligne Lake has 10 of the 20 tallest peaks in the Canadian Rockies around it. Thank you again to all our Canadian neighbors for making our two week stay in Alberta and British Columbia a trip to remember.

Arguably, the most majestic unit of architecture in North America. It succeeds in several conceptual perspectives: historical, aesthetic, geographical, cultural, technological and maybe more. It's huge and I would hate to have to worry about the plumbing, electrical, ventilation, sanitation, pest control, environmental and mopping the floors. Human beings are so sticky and dirty. We're almost not good enough for that building.

Its been wonderful to watch. I havent been there since 1980. I was staying at the Fine Arts centre for the Festival of Youth Orchestras. I was 19. It was in April still snow. I was also there in Calgary with my uncle in the summer of 1979. He took me thru the hotel then. It was and still is beautiful. Wish we had had digital cameras then. Thank you for posting. And. howd you get the upgrade. Lol.

As an American Automobile Association field Representative and stationed in Calgary, inspecting hotels and restaurants there, I drove the 160 miles round trip in one day just to have lunch at the Banff and take in the experience of this fine old hotel. It has left a wonderful lasting memory. Thank you for this excellent video. Brought back many great memories.

Hi am so surprised because i was there long time ago and i ran away three days after arriving to this hotel. The reason? ghosts me and my boyfriend were astonished when we saw a girl coming down by the steps. I never felt -up to this moment, a deep terror like that. Beautiful property, the landscape absolutely beautiful as well. but. ghosts for dinner? no thanks

This hotel began all those years ago as a tourist lure, to get folks to use the railway system. Canada was dependent on the railways to move freight and people from one coast to the other. Having a beautiful hotel set among gorgeous scenery right near a railway station was a very tempting destination for the upper class of traveller.
