Kensington: A Drive Into And Drone Shot Of The Nation's Worst Hood I live right outside of Philadelphia - years ago I used to feel safer walking around center city and rittenhouse square than I did in a suburban park. as a single woman. I would park in the Fairmount section and walk down to Rittenhouse, have lunch then walk for fun because I loved the city. We would go to Espositos on 9th street every few months for meat (then separate and freeze it. Not anymore. After 2020 and the general lawlessness that as ensued. no. we already had an opioid issue. when you hear about the push for safe injection sites. its utter nonsense. I know people arent happy with the D. A. Oh. you know what really did it for me The so called drivers equality act Drivers in Philadelphia can no longer get stopped for minor infractions like a missing brake light or an expired inspection. say what Youre driving around with an expired inspection - do you have insurance If you hit my car what are the chances that you will stay This is more encouraged lawlessness. The drivers are already bad enough - so no. I do not go into Philadelphia anymore. Done.

Sometimes the garbage depo will go on strike from having to go to these places or just ignore it all together. Apparently cuz of a few of the bad any of the good people living there are forced to basically horde garbage.
Then you got your users and homeless people, and weekend warriors who have somewhere to live after they destroy the streets.
After a few years or decades of this cycle you end up with this. it's not really about pride. it's either to dangerous, or the people who do alot of the destruction go unchecked.
It's not like your gunna have people willing to risk their lives and money to go clean up a place like this as a volunteer. which is exactly what would happen.
Government doesn't care.

I live in Philly and if ya keep voting assholes into government, this is what you get.
It use to be a great city, now I just sleep there.
Criminals run the city, thanks to the asshole mayor and District attorney.
The police lock them up and the DA lets them go, after apologizing for any inconvenience they may have caused the bad guys.
It would take billions of dollars to fix this mess those two have made.
I’m glad you made it out unharmed.

I heard this is high crime neighborhood, but from your video nothing seems that wrong visually. There are localities in boston that look exactly the same but tiny houses still cost in millions and 1 car parking spaces cost north of quarter a million. A typical urban american hood which is one idea away from being top 10 priciest places.

this was very important to document. on the ground and in the the air. at considerable personal risk all alone. you are a better man than I, Gunga Din. my friends and I got lost in a car in South Philly hoods in the late 80's. those narrow streets are very scary. we made it out ok and got a Cheesesteak, but wouldn't do it again

very familiar with the city and k and a in particular but 70 years of demacrap control is what it looks like city did an excellent job of taxing and fee businesses and lack of policing and trash removal drove the mills and fabricating out, even bakeries left
but i did notice you seem to be a left lane hanger on multi lane roads

I was raised not far from that area, known locally as the badlands. I worked as a paramedic in that area for a few years. My wife has family in that area, behind Episcopal Hospital on Lehigh Ave. The tri state area comes here for the H, many don't leave. They call it, getting lost. I can't tell you how much narcan we went through

You have a lot of crust calling Kensington the nation's worst hood! I have lived in Philadelphia all my life. There are plenty of Kensington residents who care about the neighborhood. In fact, this area is gentrifying right now. Slowly but surely coming back. It's still not half as bad as Detroit or Chicago.

I’m really enjoying these glimpses into your nation, so far away. And as an Aussie, your Siri makes me feel like I’m home! Thank you!
Philly has 33 miles of active streetcar tracks and 106 miles of out-of-service tracks. Hence, unused tracks with no overhead seem to be quite common.

When I was watching you cruise down Kensington with the rail above you I kept thinking of the scene in the movie Donnie Brascoe with Jonny Depp and Al Pacino when they were in the car together. idk if that was filmed in Philly on Kensington but it looks pretty damned close.

There's no way this happen by chance. This is a social experiment to see what happens to a community when certain substances are handed out without much restriction. Someone masterminded this. To some people, we are just laboratory rats.

How heartbreaking. How compact like a bunch of sardines in a can. How war zoney looking. How sad for the lost souls there. And this is in America. So shameful. Very little greenery or Nature. Nature is healing.

The park you went to for the drone shots, was McVeigh playground, even back is the 70's- 80's it was a notorious place to get your ass kicked, just for walking by, if you did not live within a 2 block radius

If it's that bad why is the Bronx still the poorest district in the nation I'm from the Bronx and sorry to say it looks way better than Philly. Or should I say NY city looks better than Philly.
reply

Looks very much like English towns. and yes there is lazy folk who throw trash all over the place here too! By the way Kensington in England is a very posh part of London. Thanks for the tour

Something about east coast ghettos/hoods that just hits like a brick! Idk why, but the blight, negative vibes, trash, and infrastructure conditions are just in a category of its own.
reply

If you want to get anywhere in Philly you have to drive like one of those a-hole drivers, or just wait for the guy to fix his car, because they’re never gonna just let you in.
reply

I've been to Philadelphia back in 2017 and we did a city tour by bus and you can tell how rough and dangerous certain parts of this city are. You need to always be careful.
reply

I live here in Philly. If you even need a place to crash or even a home cooked mean next time you’re here, hit me up! Stay safe. Keep up the great work!
reply

I have seen Skid Row in LA many times, but never been near Kensington. I know they both are bad in their own ways, but curious which one is actually worse.
reply

a now sad section of town. plans to plant more trees where city can. lots of asmah in these crowded neighborhoods. hope you saw the beautiful sides too.
reply

How would you compare Detroit to Philadelphia's Kensington The place looks like the seen from the movie of Eddie Murphy's Coming to America 4 decades ago.
reply

More than a few of your big cities like this one literally survive on crime. Give me the open spaces of Wyoming and Montana and the Dakota’s any day!
reply

lmaooo the video starting off is the most philly shit ever you just don't understand
'some of the biggest a-hole drivers in the country'
no

Should never get too close to car ahead at stop sign or red light in sketchy neighborhood. leave room so you can pull out around car in front.
reply

Great drone shots. I cruise this area myself alot but I'm more of a still photographer. After seeing this I'm thinking of getting a drone.

Lived at 2nd and south for 15 years. No crime, good restaurants, and fun people. Try it you might like Philly from that perspective.
reply

I don't know how anyone operates a business on Kensington Ave. yet I see stores and restaurants. I don't think I'd want to eat there.
reply

The trolley tracks in the early part of the video reminded me of Cincinnati as a boy; my father used to point them out to me.
reply

Iv'e yet to meet someone who left that area that wasn't a recovering heroin addict or still an addict. The place is a cesspool
reply

Now along the river in south and north Philly are all refugees living in makeshift tent homes. This is where they wind up.
reply

Golly what do those folks look like in kensington, do they have any similar characteristics you might be able to look for
reply

I just don't get why with all the huge expanse that this country has must people insist on packing themselves up like sardines!
reply

Im guessin those train tracks you were driving on arent used anymore. Or theyve taken the train off the tracks to live in it.
