STURGIS: Exploring The Small Town Days Before The 2022 Motorcycle Rally, The World's Largest Just dont shave for a week or two. I highly doubt that shell divorce you over you having a beard. Im sure she loves you more than that, I would hope. LOL. I started growing a beard when I was 16. Had to shave it off when the Army said I had to. I told them it was my religious belief that a man should wear his beard that God gave him. They told me to change my religion and get in there and shave my baby face or theyd do it for me. To save trouble I shaved it off. LOL. BUT once my time was up I grew it back and now 50 some years later my man fur is still on my face. As for my wife well she knew before we got married that the men in my family wore our God given man fur. We aint got no hair on our heads so its on our faces. LOL. So just tell you wife its your new religious belief to wear a beard. LOL.

I've had family in the Black Hills since about 1895, and my dad and his family moved there from northern South Dakota in 1961. Still have lots of family in the area. When I was a kid (25 years ago) Sturgis was a lot less biker-oriented outside of the rally. None of those huge saloons, etc. I have a lot of family buried in both of the local cemeteries, including a great grandmother, my paternal grandparents, numerous cousins and uncles, and others. We will be having my father's service at Black Hills National Cemetery very soon. Spent a ton of time here as a kid, sad to see what it's turned into. Thanks for the video, though!

We were crazy enough to attend 3 big rally's & loved it! Camped in Hill City at the KOA campground the 1st trip, Spearfish on our 2nd & a campground on the outskirts of Sturgis on 3rd trip. Saw some kick-ass concerts & met some really nice folks. Got to visit Mount Rushmore, the Badlands & Devil's Tower. The ride through Spearfish Canyon is absolutely gorgeous. Amazing experience & food at Kevin Costner's restaurant in Deadwood. I enjoyed this trip with you before it got crowded. Been there, did the rally's, but would enjoy going again during the off season. Thanks for sharing! Lovin' trippin' with you guys Mrs. C.

I laughed every time you said it was busy. Too bad you didn't show up during the Rally to experience why many of the locals either hole up or leave for the week. 2015 was the 75th anniversary and the largest attendance in it's history. Official number was over 730, 000, which was nearly as many people that was our total state's population. Way too many people.
I was surprised you didn't head to the east side of town to show all the giant campgrounds like the Full Throttle.

I’m not into bikes at all, but I would certainly like to see the Rally and entertainment when it gets started I bet it’s great fun and quite a spectacle to experience. Probably hardly any serious crime during those ten days, the bikers need the venue and townsfolk need the money it generates. Mutual respect and self Policing I would assume. Nice looking town, people are obviously friendly and welcoming, especially dealing with 500, 000 people each year,

I worked in downtown Rapid City, some years were busier than others, but having a knowledge of the city streets I could get around, at times all campgrounds and hotels are full at one point or another within a few hundred miles or more of Sturgis, maybe even to Sioux City. And of course I did not dare a chance to go to Sturgis, beware, the Court house has a drive up window and security cameras are on the light poles in downtown

I've never been brave enough to visit during the Motorcycle Rally. My little town in North Dakota is merely on the route there, and it's amazing how many motorcycles stop and fill up the bars and restaurants on the way.
Sturgis is fascinating because of the businesses which really only make sense during the Rally. And I always wonder what it's like for the people who live there year round

Sturgis moves out at Bike week. They take their animals and valuables with them. They rent out their houses to bikers for thousands of dollars for the week. Bike week is well over 50 percent of the revenue for Sturgis for the year. There's Buffalo Chip Campground and other campgrounds also. It's epic, believe me. I went for 12 years until I couldn't ride anymore.

My wife and I, when living in Wisconsin, went out to the rally for about 15 years. We always had a great visit and always met nice people at the rally. To us, one of the worst things to happen was when H-D stopped showing the new release bikes at the rally, on the other hand we understand why they want to release the new bikes in Milwaukee at that rally.

If your wife would leave you because of a beard that's not true love divorce should be the last words that exit her mouth you are truly good to that woman and won't find another man that treat her like you do so she better not make that mistake of leaving you its women on this earth that wish to be treated like your treat your wife

You didn't get out to Buffalo chip or full throttle. It's easier to visit them just before the rally. Saw the original full throttle 3 weeks before it burned down. Was back in the area 2 yrs later and looked at the new location. We were Full-time RV travelers & love seeing some of the towns we visited over 12 yrs or RV life.

Hey Spoda. I'm lovin' these south Dakota videos brother. I def wanna visit that area there but I'm gonna do it before Sturgis or after, I'm thinking September/October would be the best time to visit with the fall colors etc. talk about some scenery. anywho, love the vids my brother. and that wife of your's is somethin' else.
reply

I for sure thought when you were telling the story about growing a beard and the wife in tow said go for it but get the divorce papers ready. Your next comment was going to be and in this video Ill be visiting the local divorce lawyers. I was wrong and disappointed.
reply

The real biker parties are a few miles north of Sturgis at the HUGE campgrounds. That is where the major bands are performing. The best time to visit is a few weeks after the rally when all the Sturgis mech is less than half price. Keep having fun.

I've been attending the rally pretty much steady since 2005. It is crazy, especially at the campgrounds, but you have to wonder about its future when the biggest tent on Lazelle Street a few years ago was AARP.

I heard that South Dakota is growing, probably do to the oil. if it werent for the winters I would move there, it looks fantastic. I enjoy your tour of the different places, I wish I could do that

When I travel I have what I call my T-Shirt gauge. The more t shirt shops, the bigger the festival. You know you have a really big festival when you see the 3 for 10 dollar t shirt signs.

It's amazing how 'Scandinavian' those mid west towns look outside of their centres, given their influences were heavily introduced by settlers from those countries here in Europe.

Nicole really picked a great vest! If you follow the river be sure to stop and explore or fish! Amazing views and clear, clear streams! If you make them longer we will watch.

Just got back from Black Hills and stayed in Custer. Cyclists everywhere - dudes with MAGA beards and arm sleeve tatoos. Quite a sight to see - nothing like that in California

I gotta say, I hate the sound of motorcycles also so many of them drive so ignorant and rudely
I know not all of them! But the jerks ruin it for everyone

I'm not much of a biker myself, but my dad and step-mom go every other year and they always come back with a big smile on their faces.
