MISSISSIPPI: After TORNADO Rolling Fork - Also, Wife Saves A Turtle

A bit late on parade but still a very interesting tour.
Rolling Fork, I saw this reading via Reuters online and remembered you had been there. What a kicking the town took. Brings it home a lot more after having you drive me through it, terrifying.
I hate to tell you this but people here have no idea who Kermit the frog is, they have no idea about WW2 either. Does crime involve Dodge Chargers speeding
Looking around these places brings home why they sing the Blues as Ive always found it melancholy.
Releasing turtles is good fortune here in Thailand as they only go forwards and never go back, a symbol of longevity and prosperity!
Thank you as always even for this somewhat upsetting trip. Having seen the before and after makes me realise that Im very lucky. Be safe!

Those poor people. Many of them were probably already down on their luck, and now this. This tragic event may very well prove to be that town's death knell, but I hope not. Unlikely tho it may seem, perhaps this tragedy will ultimately be a blessing in disguise - especially if it means they can receive funds that they may not have otherwise gotten, and with that money, hopefully rebuild Rolling Fork into something better. I'll be praying for them. Excellent coverage, btw - and it's so awesome that you were able to film a drive through the town just months before the calamity. It's quite possible that you were the last person who did.

Unfortunately the destruction of Rolling Fork takes over one's mind and leaves the rest of the video a bit of a blur. After your video I watched a storm chaser video. That was one hell of a twister. And to hit at night as well to add to the confusion. Never lived in an area where you get the tornados. I have however been in a hurricane. The clear up after that was massive. Also in Australia we get quite regular Cyclones. They can hit hard too. But big Tornados like that one have to be the worst. Given the trend for people moving away from the area. You have to wonder if that town will ever get rebuilt.

Tornadoes destroy homes, families, businesses, jobs, history and much more, and some people DO NOT have insurance. Withstanding, thanks for reminding us about Teddy Bears and Blues, and I hope that they replace Muddy Water’s replica home and the Teddy Bear Statue(s. I LOVE the Blues, Rock! I actually took a turtle out of the road a couple of months ago and even though I was stopped and another car behind me was waving frantically at an oncoming SUV in the opposite lane the SUV just blazed right past us and just missed hitting the turtle when there was NO way they couldn't have seen it! All that said, as sweet as it was for Nicole to get the turtle. I can't believe she didn't at least carry it down into the grass field. The Turtle is in the dust right next to the road! It's basically one tire tread away from the road still

My people are from Forrest Ciry, Haynes and Marianna. Great people live here. Al Green is actually from Dansby, Armwhifhnis around the way from where my mom grew up in Haynes. I have great memories from visiting my grandmother and other relatives. The only bad memory I have is after I got married and when went to visit and saw the KKK holding a rally in downtown. To actually see them hooded and dressed in their attire shook me to the core. This was in the 2000s and it is just something I will never forget.

Stop looting - what's left to loot, kind of like the last cyclone nothing of any value left after a massive flood. Note the orange, clear makers on buildings etc - cleared of any victims - must be an international standard now - the first thing that gets done before people are allowed back to clean up - very sad I would be surprised if the town recovers after this.

So sad to see the devastation of such a nice little town. We only get to see brief news shots over here on Aussie TV. I remember seeing your earlier video of Rolling Fork but seeing it again followed by the 'after' views really brings home the impact a tornado can have on a community. Hopefully such a small town can come back from this disaster. Many thanks Joey.

I am a storm chaser & we were there that night. It was absolutely horrific. We started on Walnut & Mulberry. EMS couldn't get to that area for abt 2hrs. Storm chasers & people from surrounding communities that could get in were the ones doing SAR, which we were there for 6hrs. Rolling Fork & the areas that were hit that night need continued prayers.

The Arkansas/Mississippi state line stayed when the river was straightened by The Corps of Engineers. So the other side of the lake is technically Arkansas. That catfish sandwich is good, great with their hot sauce; -p

Wow, the devastation in Rolling Fork was very sobering, just like a scene from the First World War battlefield. No wonder the population is on the move. The reason many towns like Greenville had wide main streets was to allow a horse team pulling a wagon to make a U-turn. I last visited Greenville about 30 years ago, and they had a good agricultural museum with a great collection of old tractors.

Greenville has a beautiful courthouse. Surprising how many beautiful courthouses in poor places. I liked the wide roads and seeing the Mississippi River. I admit that I wondered if you played the jukebox. We’re ready for Alabama and Florida!

THAT was a massive tornado. The power of them is unbelievable. It’s very interesting you get to see something like that because most people have no idea how much people suffer. What always gets me is just how stripped bare the foliage is.

Rolling Fork looked like such a nice town. What a tragic contrast, before and after. Those bear statues are something, especially the one done with a chainsaw. The catfish sandwich looked terrific. And I loved the turtle rescue!

Good thing that wasn't a snapping turtle or she'd have got bit. Lol. If it ever is a snapper, pick it up by its tail and carry it carefully. They have a longer neck than you think and can reach around and get you!

As a native of Greenville/Leland, I can't tell you how anxious I got seeing you drive on nelson street. It's definitely got a bunch of history but is definitely the crime capital of the city now.

Thanks for going back and doing a comparison video. The destruction is jaw-dropping. I'm a meteorologist and have seen lots of EF4 and EF5 tornado damage. That's about as bad as I've ever seen.
