Waco, TEXAS: Some Crazy Things Have Happened Here Fun fact as a Waco native I can tell you the neighborhood you drove through is wacos ghetto known as east Waco that part of town and north Waco where I’m from are the main area for high crime levels and poverty a lot of people don’t know this about Waco but it’s heavily segregated most of that white population stays closer to the woodway and Hewitt area or the China springs area where neighborhoods are newer and nicer but in north and east Waco and some parts of south Waco it’s mostly where black and Hispanic people live at and this is the areas where most of the crime and poverty is it’s crazy to think about and yea Waco is very diverse but also very divided as well aside from the Baylor kids but most Baylor kids don’t even be from Waco it’s honestly next to impossible for most Waco native to get into Baylor since it’s a private school unless you can secure a scholarship or your family is extremely loaded your best chance at farther education is our community college or technical colleges especially with schooling the way it is it’s very difficult for the average Waco citizen to make something of themselves here there’s opportunities and resources here but they’re only more readily available for people with money to blow for it which most natives here don’t have

The Gaines Effect has had a tremendous effect on Waco. The downtown has blossomed. The area around Baylor University and i-35 has been completely transformed. We have lived in Texas for 11 years. When we would travel here, before moving, we would roll up the windows, lock the doors and travel a little faster as we went through Waco. At that time, the I35 corridor was sketchy to say the least. The flip side of this improvement is some residents, are mad at the Gaines'. They are mad because the value of their properties have risen. And their property taxes went up as a result. Seems to be a common theme in Texas; we are happy with depression.

Just a point of context; the Branch Davidians were not in Waco. They were located about 13 miles northeast of Waco. Their headquarters were in Mount Carmel, TX. The thing that you have to remember; is that Texas is so huge that people will associate their ranch or farm or home with the nearest big city. Or even the school district that encompasses their property. So when the news folks said Waco, it was just a reference to the nearest big town.

OHhh man the summer of 1991 my mom moved us to Waco from Lott, another never-heard-of town. We lived in an awful neighborhood, just about ten blocks from THE BRANCH DAVIDIANS, who were perfectly normal, saw them at HEB all the time. We were close enough to hear the black helicopters and the blaring country music screeching and flashing lights nonstop from the ATF torturing them. Eek. We moved again in 93 just to get away from that!

We love the show, but notice that the video quality is very blurred and unwatchable for the last two episodes, have you guys got a new camera, as it has spoiled our viewing pleasure. The camera seems not to like any moment, ok when still. Please, check it out. But, keep up the great work, as we love the content you put out, over here in the UK. Cheers

Hiya Joe and Nic. Great video again but when Joe is walking around with the new camera it is constantly blurring and it is very distracting. This didn't happen with your previous camera and it is very difficult to watch due to the constant out-of-focus movement. Please fix this Joe as the war office is constantly moaning about it. Thanks guys.

Yes Wacky Waco. Sorry but the area around there
I see low tolerance for ideas far left wing progressives
do not agree with. No doubt a BLUE part of Texas.
On the other hand I love the now deceased si0nger and
song writer Nanci Griffith. She is and was Texas country/folk.
Have you been to Austin on your journey yet

Great video! I’m glad you ditched your health food diet for, as Nicole-the-hot-babe (hereafter referred to as NTHB )said, Comfort food. I hope you two know I’m just an admirer, and not some crazy old coot. Dallas born and raised, I love these cities and towns you take us to. Keep up the great work!

Wacky Waco Fact: When completed in 1911, the ALICO building (seen in some of your shots) was the tallest building west of the Mississippi River! It was the second skyscraper built in Texas and currently the oldest still standing. It was added to the National Register in 2012.

I'm glad that you were able to show us some of Waco's highlights. It has been awhile since I have been up north in my home state. It's about a ten hour drive from where I am in South Texas. I hope (or hoped) you enjoy (or enjoyed) visiting South Texas. I can't wait to see your video.

A great video, and a very interesting town. The statues are very impressive! The bridge is beautiful, it looks amazing for its age, and I love all the old pictures! Some lovely buildings downtown! Thank you, Joe and Nic, enjoyable and relaxing, as always!

There is another large cult there. Check out Heritage Homestead. The city seems to embrace the members in spite of some accusations of child abuse and control of its members money. They have a festival where they sell the furniture and other items they make.

The picture quality on this video and your last one isn’t as good as your previous ones. The blurriness on this video begins at 8: 02 just for a point of reference.
Really enjoy your videos. Your insight and commentary keeps me watching til the end.

another great video. Quick question. Do you guys continue eating and finish your meals after you video the food items I worry if you are eating enough. I know it sounds silly but just thought I’d ask. Anyway, keep up the great work and safe travels.

I remember watching on the news the situation with the Davidian campus and all the stuff that happened there. I wondered what it looked like now. Glad to see that it has changed too. Thanks for sharing and you all have a great day and safe travels

Not a fan of the new camera. We watched the previous video, Texas: Forgotten Small Towns on the Hidden Backroads. Every time you pan, the camera goes out of focus. It is difficult to watch. Makes me nauseous.

I'd be interested in your viewing of Hillsboro, TX where I grew up in the first 15 years of my life before moving to Oak Ridge North, TX. Still have family in Hillsboro and I visit there a couple times a year.

Now I know why the song Cross the Brazos at Waco was written, if you have not heard the song, look it up. Thanks for the video, as always, very interesting, and informative. Now I'm hungry for sure.

Really enjoyed learning about the old history of Waco. Fantastic bridge. We in the UK really only know of the city from the siege so nice to know there is much more to the place

WOW. that lunch was expensive! Having the TV Show originate in Waco, hasn't always been the best for the community. It has gotten really expensive. Thank you for the tour
reply

A great video. I’ve been to Waco a few times. Only fault I have is it’s just bigger and more populated than what I’m comfortable in. Keep traveling I’ll keep watching
reply

That is a strange menu, there are no prices Y'all should have gone to the Health Camp, they have great burgers and shakes. I've always called that town Whacko.
reply

Dear Sir, please fix the camera or use the old one. We love your road trips, but these cross eyed scenes makes it hard to enjoy. Greetings from Clarence of Daktari.
reply

I really enjoy all your videos. But have you noticed that your new camera loses focus when it moves past a certain speed. A little hard to watch sometimes.
reply

Was hoping you'd go to Chip and Joanna's property. Traveling there next spring so wanna check it out. Or maybe not worth it My wife's a fan of the show.

Wow! Great video! Love the bridge! I love the longhorn statues too. Dr. Pepper is awesome. Your food looked delicious! Looking forward to more Texas!

Please go back to the old camera! You did a great job filming, but the new and better camera was not keeping up. Most of the images were blurry.

I’ve always wanted to visit Magnolia after watching the show for years. Waco seems like a great place to visit. Thanks as always Joe and Nic
reply

You really need a better camera for your videos because every time you pan the video is blurry but maybe you missed that in your editing
reply

Very cool video, Joe.
Lots of interesting things to see.
Lunch looked really good, now I need to find something to eat lol: )

reply

Hi Joe. at 8: 12 on your video your camera is getting out of focus and a little bit farther afterwards I think it's your new one right
reply

Is anyone else having trouble watching these videos. It gives me double vision Blurred Maybe it’s in 4K and I don’t have a 4K tv
reply

Please return the new camera. So blurry it’s like watching 3D without the glasses. Everything else you do is great keep it up!
