This Tiny Town Produces The World's Greatest Beer! We Visit SHINER, TEXAS JOE NIC: I know you love beer. Especially, dark beers. I am just giving you a forewarning. Because I want both of you to be making videos for a long time. Read up anywhere on the internet, or ask any doctor about: the dangers of drinking even moderate amounts of beer or wine. Fermentation = beer/wine = very high levels of uric acid in the blood = gout = irreversible damage to all your joints in your body = very debilitating and crippling disease. It doesnt affect everyone. But you need to have super good kidneys. And, not everyone has super good kidneys to completely filter out that horrible uric acid in the blood. The first symptoms: your fingers and/or your toes will feel like theyre sprained or broken. And, it slowly gets worse and worse, throughout your body. I used to love beer too. Until

Those housing numbers must be outdated because they don't match the market trends over the past three years. Sadly, local realtors think everyday modest homes there are worth $250 per square foot but local incomes don't match those numbers nor does the demand. I love the town of Shiner, my spouse grew up there and we'd consider moving back but not until real estate comes back down to earth with the rest of the economy. If you plan to live there you must prepare yourself to get accustomed to going out of town for major groceries and other everyday shopping needs as there's not much there but it does make for a great weekend spot for city folk looking to escape the toilet of a city they live in during the work week or a part time home for those snowbird types.

I see that Shiner Bar is closed again, oh man, most fun I have ever had in my life was in Shiner Bar, now that was a real saloon. Even after truly abusing the ZZ Top CD in the juke box, it got removed, even after many nights of showing out in top form. Everyone was welcome in Shiner Bar, in fact, that one got lit and humiliated themselves the night before, that wasn’t humiliation unless you did not return the next night to own it and have a good laugh at one’s self. Much LOVE to all of My best of Friends in Shiner Texas y’all are The Best of The Best of People, Luv You ALL!

Well when I moved onto my sailboat in Virginia I wasn’t able to find Shiner Boch in the stores there so I had to buy Yuelging brewed it Pottstown PA the oldest brewery in America which brews a lighter shade of beer and actually has taste I don’t drink beer with no taste I’d rather drink water. Now days it seems every town has a local brewery Athens, Tyler, just to name a few. So getting brewers yeast is relatively easy. I don’t brew beer I mix sour mash and distill Apple Pie corn alcohol and other flavors.

Seems like back in the late 70’s Shiner Premium was the only beer we could find, and that was in a very limited distribution area. The Bock came out once a year or so and rumor was it was when they pumped the stuff out of the bottoms of the tanks. Never thought it was true but was a good story. Also, when Shiner Bock really made it big, I believe they had a distribution deal with Corona. Several places sold it as an import and charged more for it because of that.

You produce some AMAZING videos! So interesting to take a walk through the towns and see some important places. I will be going through Texas next year and plan to visit Corpus Christi and Shiner looks like it will be on my radar! The brewery tour looked nice and that beer looked even better. You never know what you will discover passing through small towns and you have motivated me to take more road trips. Thanks again And that bar b que looked wonderful

It's also the home of Texas Precious Metals which is one of the top sellers of Gold, Silver and Platinum bullion coins and bars in the USA! They even make their own minted gold and silver rounds and bars and have sold millions of dollars worth of them. The TV show Apprentice featured one of TPM's founders about 10-12 years ago and he made the company very successful since.

I remember years ago the bock beer was only available during certain times of the year. We were told that the dark bock beer was because it came from the bottom of the brew tank. The first Shiner I ever drank was not dark, it was a pale beer. and tasted green. I wasn't until years later that Shiner Bock hit the market. Was I lied to, or were they always making Bock

Shiner Bock is pretty good beer but I never saw it in the stores until the 80’s. Back in the late 70’s, Shiner beer was actually cheaper than Lone Star and I paid $3. 88 per case tax deposit. I heard about Shiner Bock from a friend who visited Austin and told me that all of the college students were drinking the Bock variety.

I toured the Shiner Beer Brewery last year. It is now owned by Corona Beer. Saddened to see the jobs were replaced by robots/automation. Only 6 people work the brewery floor. All the others are in accounting etc. Nearby LaVaca County is home to the largest number of independent small ranchers.

Cat FOUND this was AWESOME Thank you for the walk around. I was going to move to Kyle and had a job in Austin but the Property tax was kind of high in my opinion. I think it was like $300 a month compared to Nevada at just $79. Say Hi to Nicky for me.

I spent the nineties in Victoria Texas. Went to many Bachtoberfests in Shiner. Spent many weekends fishing in Polacios, Port Lavaca and Port Arthur, as well as all the other small cities in the area. I enjoyed your Texas coast visit. thanks!

I live outside of La Grange Texas which is just down the road from Shiner! I told my wife if we ever decided to move we ought to move to Shiner! It's a beautiful town in the middle of a beautiful area of Texas.

Good day to you sir. This is Ted from San Antonio Texas. Because of your video of shiner I am going to make a trip there in the near future. Is the bbq better than Harmon's BBQ in Cibolo That is my favorite.

I sent you a DM but wondering if those go through. There is a problem with the video/camera. The video goes out of focus when you move the camera fast or when cars move across the frame.
reply

As you scan around, your camera is buried. Looks ok when your still but as you move it, its goes out of focus. Dont think this is a good camera for for movement. You must see thus when editing.

Did you switch to your phone or some other new camera, Joe Picture has become crisper and the occasional quick zoom is nice too. Luckily your format has not changed, keep it up!

Shiner is my usual favorite, I also like a lot of other amber beers like Fat tire or Alaskan from the Northwest. But, my go to and safest pick will always be Shiner Bock.

Love it

Thanks for a great introduction

Hey Joe,
Looks like your camera is still having some focusing issues.
I'll try to power through it, but it's kinda bad brother.
Love your videos.

reply

I understand that you're not using 4K video. We have a 4K TV, yet at times we're getting a fuzzy picture, which we did not see before you filming in 4K.
reply

Nice to see a small town with pride. Your many videos of urban decay and rural poverty make those of us from other countries worry for the state of yours.
reply

Looks like a really nice place to retire. What got to me during the video were the flies on the food that weren't being shooed away but once!

You should visit lubbock texas I don't know if you have already but since buddy holly was born there it has a place in my heart.

You should have offered to lick the barbecue sauce off her leg, and you would never hear her complain about that ever again.

Bold and provocative claim about the beer. I prefer Guinness. yes, not a USA beer, but USA makes flacid, vile swill beer.

Thank you for your Great and informative video Sir Jo Ma'am Nic always watching your new upload video here in Philippines

When Shiner was founded, there was no Czech Republic. The Czechs and Germans must have come from the Austrian Empire.

I never heard of that beer till now. Live in the southeast. When I use to drink never saw it at any bar & grill
