This full circle scenic drive starts in Carson City, Nevada and circles the entire lake counterclockwise on a clear summer day: 2 hours and 42 minutes of continuous driving with pure road ambience, no music and no talking. The drive climbs out of Carson City on US 50 over Spooner Summit, where Lake Tahoe appears for the first time through the pines. From Spooner Junction the route heads north along the Nevada east shore on NV 28, passing the granite boulders and turquoise coves of Sand Harbor, one of the most beautiful stretches of shoreline in the country. Through Incline Village and Crystal Bay, the road crosses into California and follows the north shore through Kings Beach, Tahoe Vista and Carnelian Bay into Tahoe City. From Tahoe City the loop turns south down the quiet west shore on CA 89 through Homewood, Tahoma and Meeks Bay before reaching Emerald Bay, the most famous view on the lake, with Fannette Island far below the winding cliffside road. The route then descends into South Lake Tahoe, follows the busy south shore past the casinos at Stateline, and returns up the east shore through Zephyr Cove and Cave Rock to Spooner Summit and back down to Carson City. Thanks for the video. I miss Lake Tahoe. Have done this drive a few times, and unfortunately, I will not see it again. It is indeed one of the most beautiful places in the world. (And I have traveled a lot, and have been abroad, so let me say, comparing it to all the places I have traveled, Lake Tahoe is stunning)

Over the past 12 years, I have visited Lake Tahoe - on both the California and Nevada sides - three times. I love this area in the Sierra Nevada. Driving the entire loop around the lake is highly recommended!

Wow. the water is really blue. I would love to take another road trip out that way. Didn’t see Lake Tahoe last time as I was pushed for time. Only a couple of thousand miles from me.
