The 2024 Kia Telluride Isn't Quite Top Dog Anymore, But That's OK

Kia's Telluride sent shockwaves through the industry. Not just because it looked good and was right-sized, right-priced, and timed extremely well, but because people were willing to pay up to $10, 000 over sticker just to get their hands on one. For several years the average markup on a Telluride was nearly $5, 000. Seriously, $5K. Why Because the Telluride is big inside, solid looking, easy to live with and came with a ton of features you might not have expected in a family hauler. Kia's popular people mover has now been on sale for four years, and what a time it has been. We have a new Pilot, new Pathfinder, the Grandest Highlander ever, and soon new GM SUVs that take big and boxy and run with it. You wouldn't be crazy if you suspected Telluride's success had a hand in Grand Highlander, Traverse, and Acadia development and that's good because everyone wins.

HERE IS YOUR BELOVED RELIABILITY.
NEW YORK, Sept 8 (Reuters) - Toyota Motor Corp (7203. T) reached a settlement potentially worth $150 million to resolve U. S. class-action litigation tied to recalls of about 3. 36 million Toyota and Lexus vehicles whose defective fuel pumps could cause engines to stall.
A preliminary settlement was filed on Wednesday night in federal court in Brooklyn. It requires a judge's approval.
The settlement covers owners and lessees of dozens of Toyota and Lexus vehicle models manufactured in the 2013 to 2020 model years and equipped with Denso low-pressure fuel pumps.
Honda Recalls: Brake and Rearview Camera Defects
Honda recently issued recalls for various models due to brake and rearview camera defects. These recalls address potential safety hazards that can result in accidents and injuries.
Unexpected Loss of Brake Function: Honda recalled over 124, 000 Civic, Passport, and Pilot vehicles, including certain model year 2020-2021 Civic, 2020-2023 Ridgeline, 2021-2023 Passport, 2021-2022 Pilot, and 2020 Acura MDX vehicles. The recall was prompted by concerns that the vehicles could experience an unexpected loss of brake function, increasing the risk of a crash.
Defective Brake Holds: Another recall impacted nearly 400 model year 2023 Civic, Accord, Acura RDX, and Acura Integra vehicles. These vehicles were manufactured with defective brake holds, leading to potential movement while the brake hold is activated. Honda plans to notify impacted vehicle owners by mail, starting from July 24.
Rearview Camera Concerns: Honda recalled over 1. 1 million Odyssey, Pilot, and Passport vehicles due to defective rearview cameras that may not display properly. This recall applies to model year 2018-2023 Honda Odyssey, 2019-2022 Honda Pilot, and 2019-2023 Honda Passport vehicles. A non-functional rearview camera can compromise the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.
Class Action Lawsuits against Honda
In addition to the recalls, Honda is facing class action lawsuits that allege serious defects in its vehicles' components.
Variable Timing Control Actuator Defect: A class action lawsuit filed against Honda claims that the automaker knowingly sold vehicles with defective variable timing control actuators. The alleged defect, affecting model year 2012-2014 CR-Vs, 2012 Accords, and 2012-2015 Crosstours, can lead to catastrophic engine failure and poses a safety hazard.
Defective Electric Power Steering Systems: Two separate class action lawsuits were filed against Honda, asserting that model year 2022-2023 Honda Civic vehicles were manufactured with defective electric power steering systems. These systems may "stick, " requiring an increase in steering effort, leading to overcorrections and potential collisions.
Electric Braking System Sticking: Another class action lawsuit argues that Honda sold model year 2022-2023 Honda Civic vehicles with electric braking systems that can stick at highway speeds. This alleged defect can cause vehicle owners to overcorrect, increasing the risk of collisions.

Paying over sticker for a car makes as much sense as paying more than list price for bananas, for a box of cereal or paying more than an advertised price for an airplane ticket. We would scream if overcharged by a retailer, but somehow it’s okay for a car dealer to practice stealing, bait and switch, and to lowball their customers for trade in’s. It is time for some national antifraud legislation to bust the monopolistic power of the dealership lobby. I hope more customers walk away from traditional professional ripoff, pickpockets that car dealers have become.

While the GH might have the fuel efficiency advantage, it looks cheaper both inside and out while still being more expensive (top trim) than the Telluride. I saw one in person and it was nothing special. In fact the Highlander actually looks more premium than its bigger sibling. Don't let the pictures fool you. This was my initial concern when Toyota announced it. How they would balance pricing against the Highlander and if 'Grand' actually implied a more premium interior.

You are surprised that Atlas has only 2 seats in the third row, but do you really think that 3 adults can actually sit back there And if it's meant for kids, then can 3 car seats fit back there Maybe 3 skinny teenage kids only. So it may be better to get 2 nicer comfy seats than 3 tight spaces. Or maybe I don't get why the false advertising of 3 seats. Just my honest opinion

As much as I enjoy my kia stinger, I don't want to set foot in to kia dealership unless absolutely necessary. Markups on everything, all models and even parts. While on other hand my Subaru experience has been much better after buying BRZ. I am not a fan of every other offering from Subaru than BRZ and WRX. I would probably get used sequoia instead all or new pilot.

I don’t have 30 minutes to find out who you think the top dog is but it’s still the Telluride. There isn’t a better looking SUV, inside and out, than the Telluride. The interior is well laid out with high quality materials. And the impressive 10yr/100k warranty is unbeatable. The Pilot and Toyota offerings look old or look like the drivers should be old.

The problem with all these 4 cylinders replacing the 6 cylinders is that while they get 33% better fuel economy you also pay for premium instead of regular and that cost about 25% more negating most of the better fuel economy of the 6. The 6 has far better low end torque and it feels just right in the Palisade/Telluride.

The telluride is the best still even with high markups. You can pay markups on it and still come out way ahead of the competition.
The telluride is proof that the majority of Japanese rivals (except the pilot or cx90 have failed miserably to compete.

What I don’t understand is why people feel the need for big 3 row SUVs. The average American family has 1. 94 children. I drive quite a bit and the number of times I’ve seen a big SUV rolling down the road packed with people is exactly never.

[rear] turn-signals being red there. Are they actually red rear turn-signals on the 24 Telluride, or are they flashing yellow, as they appear yellow on video
I assume all 24 bulbs are LED, except maybe license plate light.

Kia got greedy, and it will hurt them like dodge and Ford. Amd Kia will never be a Toyota. Still no hybrid, either. .Why would people never buy this I used to like the car but then Kia got greedy, which got me looking at other cars.

As 2X Kia owner (Niros) I agree Alex, the fuel efficiency of the GH-H makes it the best of the bunch. Despite the Telly's extra long warranty & generally good reliability, Toyota's reliability reputation is the icing on the cake

Can we all share a moment of silence for the Kia Borrego That was when the tables starting turning in the Koreans’ favor in the NAM. Shame it was so short lived, but I’m glad its eventual successor is crushing it.

I think a lot of the popularity of the front amber DRLs came from the design just as much as the color. The way it was a headlight surround, I think gave it character. This new design is quite a bit more generic.

Alex, you talk about the Acura in this but there’s no mention of the CX90. I know Mazda is trying to move up market, but there’s a good bit of overlap in the price ranges.

Combined legroom for the grand highlander is all wrong. It only has 114. 7 in of legroom not 118. 8. Please update it, it is misleading. 41. 7 39. 5 33. 5 = 114. 7

I think most people should choose the Grand Highlander hybrid. The Honda Pilot does have a fantastic AWD system and a V6! Unfortunately, it's a little boring on style.

I was in a Grand Highlander Platinum this weekend at an auto show. other than the third row, I really wasn't impressed. I don't get the hype behind the GH.

I don’t understand why Kia never offered a hybrid of plugin hybrid for the telluride. Here’s to hoping the next generation will.
