The 2025 RAM 1500 RHO Is A T-Rex Extinction Level Event, And That's A Little Sad

RAM's RHO isn't the cause of the extinction-level event that killed the T-Rex (TRX, but it's a sensible replacement once you get past the exhaust note. 0-60 happened in 4. 43 seconds, just a hair faster than RAM's predictions, but. It's clearly slower than the Hellcat-powered TRX and the same engine in a RAM 1500 Limited which did the deed in 4. 2-4. 3 depending on the run, and it didn't need launch control. Let's dissect things a bit. The TRX screamed from 0-60 in 3. 8 seconds the last time we tested it. Yep, RAM underrated the TRX which is why they claim that the RHO is only 1/10th slower. For reasons I never quite understood, RAM advertised the TRX as a 4. 5 second truck while the production models were significantly quicker, while the RHO's real-world scores are pretty close to the 4. 6 second advertisement. In a nutshell: there's no getting around the 162 horsepower / 130 lb-ft power difference between the two engines. Yep, the RHO's engine is lighter which improves weight balance and payload, and yep, it sure is 33% more efficient, but I'm glad RAM didn't recycle the TRX name, it would have been stranger. So what happened to RAM's V8 anyway Well, it's all about emissions. The reborn HEMI dates back to 2003, so the basis of the Hellcat isn't exactly modern. The design, which I've always been a fan of, was a mix of classic and modern at the time. (An important thing to keep in mind. The design was not an update of Chryser's long-running V8s at the time, but it wasn't a cutting-edge clean-sheet design either. Rather than designing a brand new aluminum block DOHC V8 with all the latest in emissions controls, it simply made more sense to go with an engine that would work in a wider range of vehicles and be able to be sold internationally as well. In other words: the Hurricane I6. Don't get me wrong, it's still insane. It's 88 inches wide, makes 540 horsepower and will drag race plenty of performance cars with ease. And it kind of sounds like some of them. The inline-6 engine has an almost. BMW like bark to it.

One slight disappointment. I would like to have actually heard the new engine.
You were talking the ENTIRE time you were driving. Love the useful info as always. But the sound of the new engine is a big deal. since we have lost the amazing V8 Supercharged music. What does RHO stand for. personally. sounds dumb to me. TRex. would be hard to beat thought anyway.

If they would make a Dakota version of that truck to fight the Ranger raptor. RAM and Jeep need to get onboard with what the people want not a government party. Ford offers 150 Raptor, Ranger raptor, and the extremely over priced Bronco raptor. The RHO seems to be the only hail marry the company is offering

Thanks for the video. First person I’ve seen so far talking consumption. Now, 14 mpg is just 3 mpg better than my TRX. I bet when you press it you’ll be down at 13 or even 12. I live in Europe so gas consumption is important, still I’ll rather pay a bit more for V8 supercharged

Someone needs to measure the size of the screen from above the trailer gain area and see if it’s any bigger than the 12 screen because to me upgrading the size of the screen to 14. 4 but adding those buttons at the bottom doesn’t seem like much of an upgrade to me.

No dipstick in hurricane engines are really properly pizzing me off. like our technology have never issues. what, is it also gvt mandate to spend more on monitoring system instead simple meter of oil level so we don't have to hope for the best the monitoring system works

Hey Alex, thanks for the awesome reviews!
I'm currently debating between the RHO and the Ranger Raptor. I know they're different segments, but given that there's about a $15K - $25K difference between the two, which one would you choose

I love this truck, but the first year high strung engine worries me. I know its been in previous Stellantis vehicles, but still
Plus, no oil dipstick is an odd choice. Trusting a sensor for the life of your engine seems like a bad idea

Honestly how much did they have to pay you dirtbag car reviewers to say this piece of junk is good. All of the Ram engineers that got laid off due to the upcoming Bankruptcy filing have said they know this engine will explode at 60k miles

Definitely cool. Concerned with the reliability from a clean sheet engine from Stelantis, but if its reliable, maybe it can be really nice. Dodge does a great job with these trucks.

I wish he would stop talking and giving us the same old details that we’ve heard for six months and let us just listen to it idle that would be new

I'm looking into RAM, unfortunately the RHO isn't what I'm looking for. I was wondering if you've done a Big Horn with the SST SO Hurricane engine

Cool looking truck. I just dont understand how people can afford a $70k truck. I have officially turned into my grandfather.
