2025 Ford Expedition First Look - Bigger Screens, New Software, New Tailgate!

For 2025, Ford's biggest SUV gets many of the same updates as its ritzy cousin, the Lincoln Navigator. But. Logically the Ford won't get the complete set of luxury bits. Most notably absent is the large LCD bank in the dash. Instead, Ford opted for a smaller display (that's still huge) but they did borrow a steering wheel that's quite similar. Also on offer: the tailgate/liftgate we see on the Lincoln, a 40/20/40 folding 3rd row, more towing, more off-road capability in the new Tremor trim, and of course so much more.

Not thrilled with refresh of the refresh. Clearly they don’t want to spend money on platform update and just bolted on some screens. The middle seat 3rd row folding is an after thought with execution.
The space behind the third row wasn’t increased. The steering wheel controls will be annoying. Air suspension is still not available so the ride will still struggle especially with the 24s. Seats look to be improved in the 1st and 2nd row. The exterior styling doesn’t move the needle enough. The rear hatch is a great idea but I didn’t see a lock button

Hi Alex, this does seem more like a hard refresh instead of an all-new Expedition. The changes do align with the trends seen in the competition. If Ford continues with the shiny black plastic trim then car buyers will have to consider investing in an aftermarket clear wrap to keep scratching to a minimum. Overall, Ford made a few welcomed changes but the Expedition remains the same, no vehicle buyers will be shocked - except for the people who haven't checked sticker prices for awhile. Thank you, Alex. You're still the best reviewer in the business!

Ford wont compete on the diesel front, but im surprised no hybrid, would of helped mitigate the abysmal mpg of this class of vehicle. Also really really not a fan of things like mirror and wheel adjustments being screen based, they all better be memory linked and that memory better not get lost in the event of a 12v battery dying. Just so many weird decisions, not even bad, just weird. I get getting rid of the button and stick for adjusting mirrors saved 1 dollar per vehicle, but at some point the penny pinching has to stop.

When I win the lottery, I'm getting a Tremor Max.
As for competition, these directly compete with the GMC and Chevrolet equivalents. The Platinum looks ready to go up against the Denali. They also compete against the Nissan Armada and Toyota Sequoia. Not sure about the Infiniti and Lexus versions of those, as I don't know if they are at the Cadillac/Lincoln level, or the Denali/Platinum level.
Regardless, these North American body-on-frame SUVs are pretty nice even at their entry level, as befits their prices.

The exterior is fine, but the interior and interaction with the controls is an abomination. Henry Ford is rolling in his grave. When I am barreling 7000 pounds of SUV down the road I shouldn't have to hunt for touch sensitive controls for basic needs. It's a recipe to end up hitting things and ending up in the body shop or worse. I sold Fords for 20 years before I retired, and this thing is a hundred grand insult to anyone who actually loves cars and enjoys driving. Get thee to a Nunnery!

Ford (and others) ARE going in the wrong direction. I mean, these are all really really nice, but they are also getting more and more expensive. It used to be that Ford was the value brand and if you wanted something luxury you'd go to BMW or Volvo, etc. They can keep innovating but they need to get their prices down. If its too expensive it won't sell well. Society needs value at this point in time.

I owned a 2010 Ford Expedition EL 4x4. I am a massive Ford fan. And I can say I would never in a million years buy this. Ford and every other maker. No consumer wants piano black at all. We just want a round steering wheel. And buttons. And seats that actually go flat. What is wrong with car makers. These are obvious things that have to be gotten right. Hard pass.

Steering wheel is a disaster, also if this middle seat in the 3rd row is not going flat with other two, it is not worth the fass. It compromises cargo in total just for long items Still proud for ford for 3 across with isofix and childseat tilt. And this plastics, piano black plasics. on the hatch, one the wheel - thsi is wrong, full stop.

With a 5 feet or so tall hood you really don’t need to talk about pedestrian safety when it regards tow hooks.
It’s time pedestrian safety becomes part of the NHTSA ratings. Vehicles like this should rated poorly and car reviewers should make it a point emphasizing the dangers these type of cars present to anyone outside of them.

I really like the King Ranch interior. I think the heads-up screen may tend to block best visibility for short torso drivers (like me. But then, I can’t afford to buy an Expedition anyway (or nearly any new SUV or Truck. Are there cup holders in the doors in the second row What about cup holders for the 3rd row Spare tire

I’m in the market for this and I’m sorry but this really awful. I hate it. It looks cheap. Tacked on screens. Random locations for storage bins. Also saw the Navigator in person at Quail and it was terrible too. Front end looks cool but the rest is just weird. Sorry Ford but this isn’t it.

That rotary shifter would actually dissuade me from buying this thing. especially when it's RIGHT NEXT TO THE VOLUME ROTARY.
It's like Ford doesn't have UX Designers.
It's also in the Chrysler Pacifica. Man I nearly made that mistake so many times while renting the vehicle.

It's just a heavy refresh. Nothing new from Ford. I swear, the Expedition was rocking that same side profile all the way from 2003-17. This update is no more substantial than the 2007 redesign. Don't expect a completely different look for the Expedition until at least 2033.

For all the money they charge for these massive suvs you’d think they’d add projector LEDs instead of the inferior reflector styleespecially with how high up these things are, to stop blinding oncoming drivers and for better visibility projectors would be very helpful.

It looks better, but not enough to move it ahead of the hot selling GM products.
I’d like to see the Expedition Active variant since that will be the bulk of the sales. Same with the new Yukon elevation. Both of those will sell in the $60k-$70k range.

i was really excited for this and everything is perfect except for the steering wheel, no paddle shifters, the third row middle seat not completely folding flat is a huge miss for me. the steering wheel and the touch controls ruins it. it was almost perfect. :(

I like what Ford Motor Company has done with the 2024 Expedition. The interior of the King Ranch was my favorite. My only complaint is the 22 plus rims used on the Expedition. I prefer, 16-17 rims with bigger tires for those rough roads. Thoughts

I once rented an Expedition Max to drive my family from Salt Lake City to Yellowstone to Phoenix (3300 miles in 10 days. It was excellent but I can't imagine would need such a beast on a daily basis unless they had like 6 kids or something

I don’t know why this bugs me because I know it’s a little thing, but Ford hasn’t changed their interior chimes/tones in at least 15 years. This thing has the same sounds that our old 2010 Edge did. I never really cared for them.

that drivers screen with the steering wheel toggleing looks rediculous! Its seems like Ford doesnt want you to mess with the screen changes while the vehicle is in motion because their making it much more dangerous to try and do so.
