Great review, my wife and I took possession of the first QX50 in Manitoba, Canada last fall. Cant stand the GPS. My old Garmin was better. Other than that Im quite satisfied. Im 56 yrs. old in a rural area, I want a quiet vehicle with comfortable seats and a relaxed drive. I admit the steering has no feedback, Im cool with that, I couldnt care less. The seats are very comfortable. We do often do 3 to 5 even 8 hour drives and Ive never felt fatigued. I previously owned a Nissan Murano so Im familiar with the CVT transmission, and while I find this an improvement to be honest the faux shifting is just dumb. Weve got about 20, 000 km (12, 000 miles) on it so far and other than the fact that in cold weather the revs stay high until the car warms up Im exceedingly happy. By the way we tried the Jag, Acura and Audi, so no regrets to date. But, god yes please update the GPS and I guess the apple car play witch Ill never use. LOL

A CVT with seven imitation gears? Weird steering? A combination of engine, transmission, and steering thats problematic? Whats not to like? Im with Alex on the CVT, especially with paddle shifters that add insult to injury. If a manufacturer is going with a CVT, dont turn it into a non-continuously variable transmission. And why stop with seven fake gears? Why not make it 12, or 17, or 27? Paddle shift to your hearts content. I usually try to find a vehicles strong points even when it doesnt appeal to me personally. In this case its a challenge. The best I can come up with is that its a pleasant place to spend time sitting stationary in your driveway. Oh, wait, theres also the gauge that tells you the current compression ratio of the engine. Thats REALLY useful.

Nissan and Infiniti program their CVTs to shift because automotive journalists wouldnt stop complaining about the lack of gears. Of all the CVTs though Nissan/Infiniti does the best job masking the CVT with shifts. Unlike most other shifting CVTs that just bounce around a few hundred rpms near redline, Nissans will actually drop several thousand rpm putting the engine back into its best torque range. The QX50 looks great but there is too much going on under the hood and not enough going on for infotainment. If Infiniti promises a software update when they do get Apple Carplay and Android Auto then its not as much of a downside. But that engine and transmission pairing though, really worried about how its reliability will play out.

Alex, excellent impartial reviews. I am glad that you dont automatically dislike CVTs. I have a 2012 Nissan CVT, and other than not being able to downshift for curves, it is great. It is very reliable and I absolutely do not miss the sensation of gear changes. Prior to that I had a 2008 FX45 and 1999 VW Passat. If I am controlling the speed in curves, Id like to be able to shift. Otherwise, driving to work, the store, riding on the beltway or where ever, I do not miss the feel of the car shifting. Why would I? Still, out of this segment, I am most drawn to the Stelvio

Untested new engine technology in its first model year from a company with a reputation for cutting corners and badly engineered drivetrain components. You would be a fool to own one past the warranty. The idiocy here is that the variable compression tech makes a 268 hp engine efficient but CVT kills the performance. So you couldve gotten basically the same fuel economy and performance results with a 190 hp engine and a conventional gearbox.

I get it. But dont care to be a test buyer/leaser for this vehicle. I mean why? Whats the intended market for this rig? The younger female leasing person? Just my own observation. I would pass on this car. I dont get the need for this variable motor with just barely better fuel milage, especially at this price point. The RDX is by a far margin a better more far more rational choice in my opinion. No. No thank you.

No thigh extender, only two way lumbar, no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, no Hybrid option, still uses a CVT across the board, and Infiniti wants to charge 56, 000? This car has no place. At 35, 000 youd be better off with the RDX or NX. At 45, 000 youre better off with just about everything else in the segment, and at 55, 000 the XC60 or X3 is a no brainer. Infiniti mailed this one in big time.

This will be my choice if I have to buy Nissan Murrano. Otherwise, there are so many better options in the market including the Mazda CX-5 as someone has already pointed out. I recently drove CX 5 for a 1. 5K mile interstate trip, and trust me its one of the best, and better than so many luxury brands I drove. I am not a Mazda owner, but thats what I will be looking at for my next vehicle.

The Acura RDX models actually shipping to customers seem to be MUCH slower than the hot versions sent to reviewers which was a trash move by Acura. No one really talked about that much, it would be great if you could revisit that Alex, with a dealer model to see what people are actually getting in an RDX off the shelf.

2. 0L making the same power figures as their venerable 3. 5L - sweet mother, thats actually impressive considering its mpg numbers. Not easy to achieve. But they need to get their infotainment act together. CarPlay is just basic. I know they do make responsive systems, they should at least cover the basics.
