2018 / 2019 Ford Mustang Ecoboost Review in 4K

Fords Mustang has been the affordable RWD coupe to beat in America for a while, but in 2016 Chevrolet did just that with the new Camaro. That caused Ford to sharpen their pencil, and refresh the Mustang for 2018. Does that put this little pony back on top? Not quite, but it is the car Id buy if I was shopping. 2018 is the first year of the refresh but we already know whats happening for 2019 so this video includes those details in the comparison section. Nothing mechanical changes but Ford does re-shuffle a few options for the 2019 model year

Personal take: As the driver, the inside meant way more for me than the outside looks; they both look stunning. Utility (trunk, back seat space) was not important at all, and neither was gas consumption. The Fords interior looked too normal for me, too like a Focus RS. Same with the steering wheel with the many buttons, the center console reminded me of the premium trim Ford Fusion, and the hand break is just too in your way like begging to be used. Camaros steering wheel felt better. 90% of the time you hold the steering wheel so it was very important for me to really like it. Same with the posture in the driving seat. The Camaro dash is more unique, different than the norm (even if a bit quirky and sometimes not efficient. Visibility wise, both felt the same for me (57) because I move the chair up a bit. Sound wise, both sounded the same. Drive wise, similar but the Camaro felt like a bit more oomph and, as you said Alex, felt better around corners; much more engaging. Sounds silly, but I was smiling more in the Camaro seat than in the Mustang. At the end of the day, after 1 month of research and test drives, I went with the Camaro 2SS.

Good for GM for getting Ford to amp up the Mustang. Better handling better overall than when introduced in 2015. I was Camaro all the way no matter what, but with the 2. 3 Ecoboost hold on a minute. Mustang is looking way better than the Camaro there. The Magneride suspension is a must. I am dubious about the handling package too. If worse came to worse I can change things up later as the after market from Shelby Performance and others will likely step up to the plate there. V8 I agree with you Alex, but boy oh boy that Camaro and Mustang do sound good. I think I like the velvety growl of the Mustang vs. the more raucous Camaro with the optional exhaust package. What a great time for Pony Cars. You cant lose either way. Camaro or Mustang. Sure there are sides, but purely from a car vs. car, it is super close, and that is good for everybody.

Mustangs will have all kind of problems once it reaches high mileage. I used to own a 2006 Mustang, and after 90K miles, problems just came one after another. For those I can remember: 1. washer fluid tank leak. 2. washer nozzle motor blew up on both side. 3. brake caliper leak on both front, had to replace both. 4. Exhaust rattle. 5. plastic trims all brittle and broken while replacing washer nozzle motor. Those plus some other issues. Stangs might have a lot of fun for the first few years, but they are not built to last due to all those poor quality parts. The price also reflects that.

Im not so sure that the reason the 4 cylinder turbo is being used rather than the V6 is because its such a superior engine. Try hanging a turbo on that V6 and youll definitely threaten the pecking (marketing) order that has the naturally aspirated V8 on top. After-market turbo kits for the V6 claim 444-750 wheel horsepower. I understand that one reason for the 4 cylinder turbo is because Ford is promoting the Mustang as a world car. In other countries, apparently they tax cars based on engine displacement. So, I guess Ford came up with the fairly hot and efficient 4.

Glad someone not only chose to review the Ecoboost in immense depth but also the Automatic with it. Too many people are die-hard fascists about the 5. 0 and a manual. I mean look at this comment section, they feel the need to still rail on literally anything thats not a BIG MURICAN V8 MANUAL here even though there are thousands of videos reviewing that combination. Because cars cant be enjoyed in other ways while being economical about it, clearly.

Tough to pick a winner; Camaro or Mustang. But at 40+K, youve got a lot of cross shopping options. For that kind of coin, Id be looking at both the Focus RS and the MUCH FORGOTTEN Fusion Sport. Id be considering a WRX, a Nissan 370z, some kind of Lexus F car, not to mention the slew of German crap to cross shop. Just this week, out of curiosity I priced used Alfa Julias. You can get a used one for low 30s. All that said, Id have a 392 Challenger.

Once Ford addresses their enormous problem with galvanized corrosion on every one of their vehicles, including this one, that has aluminum hoods, tailgates, etc, maybe Ill be another Mustang. Not paying big bucks for a Mustang when the aluminum hoods corrode within a year or two. Many start corroding right after the 3/36 bumper to bumper and then youre paying huge money to have the car repaired and repainted. Nice job Ford

Nobody ever notices the fact that the Mustang is one of very few cars that have air-conditioned seats. Not just ventilated, AIR-CONDITIONED. Most cars have ventilated seats - including expensive foreign cars - and there is no comparison to the Mustangs A/C seats. I drove a rental Mustang in Florida with this feature and it was incredibly comfortable. Anybody who lives in a hot climate ought to consider this.

Everyone apparently knows what a Mustang is or should be. lol Look back at when the Mustang first appeared. Now you have several options. A 4cy turbo putting out 310 hp and 350 pnd ft of torque is amazing. That was a dream back in the day. If you want more grunt and have the money then get a GT. Funny thing is that the Ecoboost is still faster than 75% of the vehicles on the road. Not a bad everyday driver.
