Your assessment that the Ridgeline, for all its qualities, doesn't measure up' the the rest of the truck competition is spot on. BUT. the RV forums are full of comments from owners of smaller trailers (5000#-6500#) that they don't want to live with the size of a 1/2 or 3/4 ton truck, day to day. And the only mid-size truck option to handle that weight - the Baby Duramax-powered Colorado/Canyon - has lost sales steam, now that we know GM sold that engine's factory in Thailand and will only offer a single turbo gas engine beginning in 2023. 500, 000 RV towables were sold in 2018 alone. but for many of them, only a 1/2 ton truck or larger will do the job.

I ve always loved the pragmatic way Alex looks at the Ridgeline. It really helps appreciate the merits of the Ridgeline relative to its competitors. If a Ridgeline could handle everything I needed it to do, this would be my choice in the midsize pickup segment without question. I m honestly not a fan of how they doubled down on the manly tough talk in the press release, though. Just OWN the fact that it s the unibody option in the segment that s easier to live with with better driving dynamics! But I guess that s what they think they need to do to appeal to pick up shoppers smh. So be it. Still love the Ridgeline nonetheless.

Owner of a 2017 blackedition gonna hang on until the fill refresh of the ridgeline
love the look of the 2021 model and glad they added the HPD! the truck was looking a bit naked with out any off-roady moniker also the only thing I wish for in the full refresh is more ground clearance, 8 inches is fine for a Honda pilot. let try to differentiate our selfs here. And maybe the composite leaf spring tech from volvo? Or maybe new E-torque system fro the GM/Honda partnership
Nonetheless, Honda is moving in the right direction, can't wait for the full refresh

Ridgeline is far too wide for me. Honda deceptively calls it a competitor to midsize trucks, but that's because it has the capability of a midsize truck, while actually being as huge as a full-size truck. I was driving a rental Colorado for a week just recently and the width really came to the front. Drivers of full size trucks in the group definitely had issues on the trail. I'm quite interested in what Ford is promising. They hinted that they're going to convert Ford Focus. er. Transit Connect. well, actually Bronco Sport into an FWD pickup.

I checked out a 2020 Ridgeline but I passed on it and bought something else because the Honda still has an interference engine with a timing belt which is a disaster waiting to happen. At the minimum it is an added maintenance expense and a constant concern. Timing belts don't belong on interference engines, period!

If your looking at 2wd or basic 4x4 midsizer with no off road packeges id choose the rigeline. The fwd will do better in bad weather rain snow and the all wheel drive is going to do better as well in those condisions. Plus if looking at somthing like what i sed offroading probly isnt what your going to be doing any how.

Alex, The funny thing about this slow selling unibody pickup is that Ford and Hyundai intend to go right down the same #rabbithole to search for the same non-existent customers. As far as pragmatism is concerned, a V6 CUV or minivan coupled with a utility trailer would be much more useful.

Looks better for sure. I think if low range was available, that would make it a contender for me. Towing and payload are more than i would ever need already. I've seen a few of these with mild lift kits and they look pretty good with a lift and more off road oriented tires.

I like the front end better, but wasn't a fan of the original. The grille slot design is a bit odd for a truck but tolerable. However, I'm not a fan of most of Honda's front-end styling to begin with.

Always thought the Ridgeline was the most practical pickup for me but I just couldn't tolerate the look. The small nose job makes all the difference. It looks much nicer to me.
