Four Years with Brian's Veloster N

Four Years with Brian's Veloster N

It has been about four years since I began daily driving a Hyundai Veloster N. 2019 model year, no performance package, manual transmission, of course. No DCT was available at the time, but I am glad. This is an easy manual to work with, and the rest of the driving experience is have-it-your-way: go-kart when you want it, sensible and practical economy car when you need it. Here are my findings on life with the Veloster N the good and the bad. Jeff: I have a 22 DCT. This review is pretty much spot on. I did replace the summer pzeros with all season Michelin Pilot sport 4as. I really don t think any factory car should ship with summer tires. They actually sell these cars with summer tires in the WINTER. It s absurd. Unless you track your car, or live in California or Florida, you don t need summers. I shouldn t have to replace tires on a brand new car.

Replacing a battery 2 years into ownership is nothing
The battery in my 2020 Camry died only 3 months after I bought it brand new in thanksgiving 19. I had it jumped at the office. I then drove it to the dealer but the dealer didn t find any issues. A couple days later it died again. I had it towed to the dealer on the dead battery and this time the dealer replaced the battery for free. But the battery took a week to come since none were in stock.

The rusting brake thing is a combo of the pad composition and rotor. It's a cheap car. My subaru has been sitting for like 3 months now and you can seethe rust build up on the rotors. I got cheap steel rotors uncoated. So it'll happen. Now the caliper is a weird part but I believe they sorted out the cylinder boot. Have you changed out the brake pads?

Was is your main brakes or e-brake that got stuck?
My 2017 Toyota 86 does similar when I leave it outside undriven for days and the brakes rust. However, I barely lift my e-brake up. I leave it in gear to prevent it from rolling so it never gets so stuck to a point that I can't get it moving.

Great long term review! Now Hyundai/KIA just needs to give us proper Highway Driving Assist for these N and performance models-- because for many of us, this will be our only car/daily. For any of us in big cities or do lots of roadtrips/freeway driving--- HDA is amazing!

Im a 11 sonata hybrid owner with 119k. Never replaced the brakes but I get the lockup issue as well if it rained or the vehicle sits more then a week without being driven. Never had the issue as bad as you though its allways released with a touch of gas pedal.

I'm so glad the interior is cheap and spartan. I'm tired of cars escalating in price, particularly lower end cars like hot hatches. Hot hatches are supposed to offer next level performance on a budget, nothing else.

You need to service the brake calipers when u live in the north every 12k miles. U should lube the slides and service then we offer that service in upstate ny it s very crucial u will extend the brake pad wear by two

I own previous gen, the only issue I got is the cooling: drive on 75mph for 5 hours the turbo will overheat. Also have an genesis coupe with the same engine but I love the Veloster N more.

I had a gen 2 BRZ but needed something a bit larger. The VN has been the most fun I ve had driving and I am sad that it s retired. I hope I can hold onto it for a long time.

Great review and fun car. I wonder if anyone has ever converted this 4-door hatch into a 5-door hatch using right hand drive market body panels and structure

Always loved that car. I ended up getting an ND2 Miata and a minivan because I have a family. Both the Veloster and the Miata have tons of personality.

Hyundai interiors are definitely not the best. They should reduce electronic bells and whistles and put more money into armrest comfort.

I just can't get over that goofy 3 door design. Give it proper 4 doors and maybe another 2 inches in rear legroom and it would be perfect.

I feel like all new car batteries today die prematurely. I think their are too many components still running when cars are turned off.
