driving the Mitsubishi i MiEV
video description
And how will those who live in a tower block charge them up?
It is a step forward, but I think the most viable technology is the Hydrogen cell. They just need to develop a way of storing the Hydrogen safely in the car, without the risk of the gas exploding But Hydrogen powered cars are totally independant, and there is no need for a charging point.

-kbrumann And as for -which tax should be INCREASEd instead-? I wouldn't mind how taxes were raised, as long as the government did it fairly, & WITHOUT STEALTH. For instance, smokers and drinkers pay more tax than anyone else, so they have every right to be treated in hospital for their 'vice related' illnesses. Likewise, drivers pay fuel duty, aswell as VED, depending on the car they happen to drive. So the least a motorist can expect, is to have good quality, well maintained roads to drive on.

-kbrumann So why is it illegal to keep your car on a public highway, even when it is SORNed?
Road tax began as a way of generating revenue to maintain the roads, LONG before this Global Warming LIE. The government NOW tell us that it is not used as a means to 'rake in' money for the upkeep of roads, as a way of a 'COP OUT' to avoid their responsibilities to spend the revenue on what it is meant to be spent, MAINTAINING OUR HIGHWAYS. It has become nothing more than another extortion racket.

Because you work more then the range of the electric car from your home? Because you have a family that needs various trips through out the day that may one some days exceed the range? Because the idea of a -green- car that is getting power from coal and nukes sickens you? Because you can only afford one car and need a car with a lot of space? Because you like powerful cars? -
On a side note, I drive from where I live to napa (120 mi) once a month and to lodi (200 mi) once a month.

Forget this hunk of junk. Get a Nissan Leaf. The i-Miev looks like a pregnant un-Smart car, and drives like one too. This electric -car- should not even be mentioned in the same sentence as. The Tesla Roadster is epic. Although it does take 16 hours to charge from 0% to full with a 120 volt socket, when will you ever recharge from 0%? It only takes five seconds to plug in an electric car. Recharge your electric car at night and don't take road trips. Save those for your gas burner.

-kbrumann What I mean is, even if your VED is up to date and valid, it is now illegal to keep your car on a public highway if it is uninsured, even if it is declared SORN, and not being used. This is yet another extortion racket to keep the money rolling in for insurance companies.
I was always led to believe it was the DRIVER who was insured, and NOT the car. But yet again, we have our government pandering to the whims of PRIVATE companies, and not the public individual.

Bright sunshine in this test. What is the range on say a cold winter's night when it's raining and using the heater? I'm guessing about 20-30.
I would love an electric car but the problems and the ridiculous cost not only to buy but to replace the batteries kills the idea for me. stone dead.
They should also be covered with solar panels and a small 'pop up' wind generator when standing idle.

I had a Mitsubishi Colt, on a 3 year lease. In that time the driver's seat tore, and the carpet wore out (there was a big hole in it) When I pointed this out to the dealer, he said, -Oh, don't worry. All Mitsubishis do that-. I was a lovely thing to drive though, apart from the noise, which was always very high.

I've got one and my wife want one too. BUT the price in each country is another thing.
You've to pay for the i-MiEV here in Luxembourg (8/2012) about 27000-,
for the eco-bonus you'll get 5000- back, the result 22000-.
The all-year-maintenance is about 100-!

Curiously, those who complain about pollution from electric cars & hybrids don't actually give a shit about carbon output or climate change - they just think they have a valid argument against these vehicles. They don't however, as even a simple Google search will show.
