I like the idea that the Group A needed to be driven to get the most out of it, I think that's been lost a bit in the current form of the WRC. The drivers were stars because. well you had to be, to drive the things quick and the car brands were all unique in their own way.

does the WRC car have active diff's? Is the Group A car more powerful? Does the Group A car still have a top mounted intercooler? Does the WRC car have equal length headers? Twenty years on and I still can't get full accurate specs on the differences between these two cars.

hmm it seems that setup is as much the reason for the WRC and group A differences. An aggressive tarmac setup on both would be more interesting, but yes modern rally cars make it easier for the driver as it's faster.
