You can now get winter tyres in 20- and 21-inch diameter, but is it worth fitting them to the sports cars that predominantly use this size of tyre? Steve Sutcliffe finds out how effective winter tyres are on a rear-drive Porsche 911 in the snow

i would of get a GTR. its all wheel drive and a 4 seater. i seen way to many Porsche on the road that it makes you dont wanna buy one no more because it doesn't roll head no more since people see it almost everyday. i guess only old rich people are into Porsche cause they're usually old people driving in it when ever i see one. Though a lot of these sports car dont have stick shift no more since no shift will go up to 7-12 speed, but instead have that little nob on the steering wheel.

Oh in a Michelin event the competing Pirelli tires - purposely chosen to make the comparison by Michelin - suck. Go figure. Enjoy the fancy hotels, food and drinks and do not pretend you have something useful to say as you are clearly biased in the situation. Buy into this marketing crap just to have few days of fun on the ice and try to sell that to us too is a struck of genius. Wonderful example of good journalism. Not that I wouldn't to the exact same in his shoes.

I've worked for car manufacturers for many years and we don't want journalists to turn the Traction Control off because when they do they invariably crash the car! They all think they're race/rally drivers and they're not. An 80% increase in winter tyre sales in Germany? (which isn't eastern Europe Mr Sutcliffe) How so, they have been a legal requirement from Nov to April for years!

Nah, they are worthless. Never ends up better then middle of the test results. In Sweden, Nokian and Continental always are the two best manufactures according to all tests. Pirreli, Michelin and Goodyear does decent work, but they're never close enough and we are allowed to use studded tires around here. We should know, we got snow/ice about half the year.

I grew up in northern Ohio where we got plenty of snow and I always drive VWs on all-seasons year-round with confidence. But, living in a valley in Japan where snow accumulates MAYBE 2-3 days a year, I was surprised to find that nearly everyone runs studless tires long before and afyer winter. Sell these in Japan, make big cheese.

why not? its EU mate. there are cars from every country beyond their national territory, I can spot virtually spot any EU license plate (except for Malta and Cyprus which u see rarely as they are islands) in a day here in Brussels

A 991 sounds fantastic when you drive it. (growls at low revs reaching a howl at high revs, in the S at least) Much better sounding than the GT-R because it's naturally aspirated and the flat 6 is a much sweeter engine.

They must hate hime driving porsche with porsche drivers and possibly porsche owners with he driving around with GT-R beanie. Thats just awesome.

When you at same place at same time try winter and summer tires on 2 different car's, then you will know how difference is big. It's amazing.
