A few chaps from the UK took my son and I for a lap around LaSarth in a pair of Caterhams, both on Avon racing slicks! It was around 1am, and the morning of the 2004 24 Hours of LeMans.
I'll never forget going around the traffic circle sideways, looking over my left shoulder, and seeing the other car tucked in tight behind us, ALSO IN A DRIFT. My 12 year old son was grinning ear to ear.
He was used to this sort of stuff, from riding in my Viper. -

What a lovely car. I would like one, but as I dont have the 50, 000 the best consulation for me was the Lego version. Lego has registered the Caterham set as a retired product.
However it is available from Amazon at 209 pounds for the set. In 2016 when first released it retailed for 69 pounds.

The question shall I buy a (or drive my) Caterham 620R or shall I buy (or drive my) a Volkswagen Golf GTI never occurs, so why make the comparison? Both do what they're meant to do very well but comparing the two is nonsense!

A fantastic car but you need to compare with other lightweight track orientated cars like Arial Atoms & Radicals not a hot hatch. A Caterham 620R faster than a Golf Gti? Who would have guessed?

being a big cities person with no need for a car I really hope some day I'll be able to get a second hand one as track toy. Looks out of this world.

Note that the car has rather narrow tires, this makes a car like this more fun to drive since the driver needs to work for it.
