Well, I'm not impressed. A mechanic who gave a damnor a DIYer working on their own truck in the drivewaydoesn't just slap a new module back on the frame rail and call it a day. They also try to fix the physical engineering defect to prevent future issues. Because the root-cause design flaw wasn't addressed, that new replacement module will just start corroding on day one and fail again in 3 to 5 years, right on cue. The customer paid you a lot of money to do a half-assed job. Do better.

I always used to say that someone was living right when pulling a 13 speed out of a semi and the u joint caps would come out decent or quick connect air lines unhook like they should. It’s the thought that counts sometimes
Good old calcium chloride and electricity and time.
Good deal you didn’t have to wait for GM site to be up to program it.
For a ten year old truck where you live I’d say it’s doing great.

Have you ever thought about becoming a teacher at a good tech college to actually teach the up and coming generation to be actual techs, and not just parts replacers!
You could save your body, not have snow dripping in your ears during winter, and help in creating a new paradigm in training.
You actually intimidate me withhow much knowledge you have, and your ease of presenting in a fashion that promotes the learning orocess.

Goooood morning kids! Mr O. Got me another owl yesterday y'all! Same lady. This one hit the windshield and was full grown. Crazy woman gonna get herself hurt one day. That said, Mr O, as soon as you said what was going on and whipped out the scanner, I said to myself Eric, you already know it's rotted out, just go look at it. That doesn't make for good content though. LOL! Happy hump day y'all.

The other day i looked up cereal data and went down a rabbit hole about kellog and neslie conspiracies. their both some back handed companies ran by some greedy people who are about as crazy as those extremist protestors you see supporting that child killer mom. The type that go to those gatherings where they all randomly scream at the same time. lol
reply

In Washington state we used to have emissions testing, not vehicle inspections. Thankfully they don’t inspect anymore. In a rare moment of the government acting sanely, they realized the testing was doing no good, cost too much and hit poor people’s pocket books the hardest.

Lets bolt a zinc alloy to a steel vehicle in a high moisture and salt laden environment, expensive sacrificial anode, love the I can see circuit board
Great diagnosis Dr O, school day not wanting to miss.
Thanks for sharing both.

Common eric, we know you love scotty, lol. Great video though. Great use of your common sense. Too many want to create rabbit holes. Doubt i'd ever own a newer gm, or anything domestic for that matter. But i have brothers that do

Why does a fuel pump need a control module 40 years there was just a relay that turned the pump on when the ignition was turned on. I guess a proven reliable system needed to be made complicated and expensive to repair.

An axiom is a statement, rule, or principle that is accepted as true without needing proof. It acts as a foundational starting point for deductive reasoning, logic, mathematics, or scientific theories.

I never clear the codes when I drop my car off at the mechanic. Leave donuts, pizza, and chicken wings in the car for them to eat. Leave the car, clean and smelling nice. you need better customers.
reply

Since this is a known issue with these cars, I wonder if it would be worth it to take the module out and dip it in some kind of protective coating material. And then mount it in its location.

Genuine is what is so hard to find on social media, YT etc. Seems everybody has an angle, a pitch, something to sell, a bias. Not SMA. Please do drag us through the mud. Love the details.

Why is a driver module needed to turn on a fuel pump The fuel pump should turn on as soon as you turn the key on and then turn off as soon as you turn the key off. What's the big deal
reply

I have a 2016 GMC Youkon from another shop who put the in tank fuel pump in. It is a crank no start and sounds like 0 compression. I know for sure the fuel pump wouldnt fix it.
reply

No rusted brake lines, exhaust, etc. to replace after 10 years of NY winters seems hard to believe. I think the F-150 has a module in a similar place with the same results=corrosion!
reply

Three minutes in, I'm calling the FPCM, it's above the spare tire, and it's New York. The thing is probably rotted in half. I'll keep watching to see if that's a good guess.
reply

Those FPCM were recalled through like 2023 for water intrusion damage. I went through 4 on my 21 2500 before GM finally released rev2 this summer. Inventory may be limited.
reply

The body protection was poorly done. Ive just had my new Jimny treated, everything including body cavities, except brake rotors and exhaust receives a waxoyl coating.
reply

GM engineer: Let's put a computer above the spare tire where it can get plenty of salt and mud. If we leave the PCB completely unprotected, it'll be a real money maker.
