From Honda's official press release: -The development car that achieved the lap time was technically representative of production specification. A full floating roll cage was installed for safety reasons, but its presence did not provide any additional rigidity to the body frame. The extra weight of the cage was compensated for by the temporary removal of the infotainment system and rear seats. The car was using road legal track-focused tyres. -

I think these laps should be an average of the three fastest from 10. That was quick but by around 5 mins the tyres were already going and by the end they were done. Average it on one set and it not only gives a better indication of overall performace but would also discourage setting the cars up right on a knife edge and hoping for a good (lucky) lap.

5 were Americans who will try to debunk Honda's achievement despite their inability to drive fast a FWD car, let alone build one (before people say -Focus- or -Fiesta-, they were fully engineered in Europe and the Cruze is a GM Korea project)

With all the hype this car looks like a handful to drive. look at the constant wheel adjustment and understeer. goes to show you can make anything fast but. if you wanna make life really difficult try doing it with a FWD platform. this car is going to get a lot of young kids killed

Don't understand why people just can't appreciate a feat for what it is. You don't have to want the car or like the car but you have to respect what it achieved. I own a Golf R and I'm super impressed by this. Ugly side of fan boys laid bare

Here's an idea Honda. How about you get an actual production car next time and do it? This nonsense with a roll cage which doesn't add rigidity but it adds weight so let's remove things from the car to offset the weight-gain is irrelevant.

I know its quick but from the video at least it looks like there is a fair bit of understeer. The driver did not really have to correct any oversteer which would make this car boring to drive compared to say a Fiesta ST.

It would have been nice if the driver had the Sat Nav on so we can see where on the track the car is located and to validate the red dot on the screen. Just want to test Honda's Sat Nav system on that track that's all.

The roll cage is a floating one, so has no bearing on chassis rigidity. They removed the back seats and infotainment to adjust for the weight of the roll cage. Done!
