Return of the V8 Defender! Supercharged new Land Rover Defender V8 (and PHEV) review - Autocar

The Land Rover Defender V8 is back. Until the 1990s a woofly big petrol engine was a staple in the Defender range but, barring a few special editions since, it has been largely absent from Land Rover's most versatile vehicle. Now, though, in this new Defender, the V8 is back. The new V8 Defender can be had in short or long wheelbase, 90 or 110, forms. And in either way, performance is strong. The V8 is a 5. 0-litre supercharged unit making 518bhp and 461lb ft, which is good for 0-62mph in 4. 9sec and a 149mph top speed. What it's less good for, perhaps unsurprisingly, is sipping only a little fuel. This is a 19. 3mpg, 330g/km car. And it's quite expensive, costing from at least -98, 575. But maybe, just maybe, the appeal of a big, lustful V8 makes it worth it? Also included is the new Land Rover Defender PHEV review, a 110-only Defender that combines plug-in hybrid technology with a petrol engine. autos: This Defender will never be a legend. The Range Rover still has the same style, why not defender? This is why the new G wagon is the best SUV ever!

As much as i like the look of the new defender i decided instead to buy a very low mileage 1 year old Range Rover L405 Hybrid. I kept it for only 3 months. i hated the gearbox which was jerky at low speed and the gear selector sometimes wouldnt allow me to change from D to reverse, i had to switch the car off and on again. Wont buy another LR until they improve. wifes Yaris auto Hybrid has a perfect smooth seamless gear change. GREAT REVIEW AS ALWAYS

After several months.
LandRover has brought back Defender name with huge difference from predecessor. Now, Defender has plenty of engine choices, far better handling and more car feels inside. The drawbacks with this new Defender is the weight. Those fabulous engine couldn't show their best with such weight.

Most people whom whinge about plug-in-hybrids have either never driven them and are spouting - or are too lazy to plug them in to charge. Unless your daily commute is more than 100 miles then plug ins really do work (and if you-ve got the ability to charge at work for the return journey then they-re even better)

Yeah for us Indians it's appealing for sure because Jaguar land rover is INDIAN owned by the Indian automobile giant TATA motors Ltd. So, being a Indian company now we appreciate products like this more on foreign brands. -

Defender. sitting on 22's. But you can get 20's if you want to 'offroad' it. Flats going over a 4- curb. Dad Defender to new Defender -Son, I am disappoint. - But it is nice they got the 5. 0 SC in there.

Ooh quick let-s suggest to Boris that he makes the 2, 600kg 5. 0L supercharged V8 Landie the official limousine fleet for Glasgow COP26- (actually on second thoughts, don-t - he might like the idea-)

I like that. Prefer a G, but I still like it. Whilst it's nice in Spain, I don't understand why this whole vid wasn't shot either there or here. We could have outdoor V8 sound captures then.

It-s a shame LR limited the wheel size we could use by slamming the largest brakes they could find on it.
Some smaller wheels with meaty tires would be great with that V8

Buying the V8 defender is an emotional purchase not a logical on that what the 6 cylinder and diesel are for so I-ll choose the V8 all day long.
