If Porsche replaced the HVAC screen with manual controls, added manual vents instead of having to move them from the infotainment, and added just a bit more acceleration to get it below 5 seconds. this lowest tier trim would sell like hotcakes. gobbling up some of the demand for the i4 50, Polestar 2 with Performance pakcage, and model 3 Performance. Thing is, it really just isn't a practical all season daily driver, so a lot of people will struggle to justify such a high price. A model 3 Performance, which is a cheaper car than both of these, can run the quarter mile time 1. 6 seconds faster than the Porsche. It's also AWD, and has more cargo space. Downside is cheap interior, weak suspension, weak brakes, and not the best cargo space. IMO, while maybe not the best sports car of the bunch, the i4 50 is the best value of the bunch as a daily driver. You'll be happy you have it just as soon as you try to put something big and boxy in the vehicle and utilize the hatch. It's better appointed and has better road compliance than the model 3 but isn't as nimble due to its weight. Less road noise as well. The Porsche doesn't have AWD, isn't as fast, and doesn't have anywhere near the utility. but it does has a great interior, a great look, and most importantly, it drives the best. As a second household car, sure you could go for the Porsche. In a one car house in a region with snow, it's a tough sell.
Now if I lived in California, or southern Europe, I'd buy that Porsche in a heartbeat.

It-s nice to see a comparison of the i4 in M50 guise against a bog standard Taycan for the laugh but let-s be clear-these are not equal competitors on price point. They are similar in gran coupe design but that-s where it ends. A similarly equipped Taycan would be ALOT more money and to be fair would hammer the i4 then. So by comparing apples with apples I think the i4 held up pretty well against a car that in my market is at 150% more expensive in like for like spec. Good to see the review but pointless in another aspect. It-s not a full M car, people say it is and the BMW blurb says something vaguely about it being one but a full M is a heavyweight. This is an M440 competitor. Lots of people comparing it to a model 3 Tesla, close but not the same I -

It's amazing how every liability of conventional ICE vehicles is rationalized as some sort of benefit. Feeling gears shift, is just crude and literally jerky, it's the opposite of the intended function of a luxury car. Tremendous effort has also gone into muffling and modifying the engine noise. A car without a muffler to silence the engine is so bad that it would cause hearing loss for the driver after awhile. Not to mention the absurdity of the ICE car belching poisonous gas out of its tail pipe. Personality indeed. But then the Brits used to try to convince us that the oil leaks in the MG were all a part of the charm as well. Sure, like the charming smell of vomit and sticky floors at the local telephone booth.

I own a Taycan Turbo drove it 6000 miles through snow and leaves and I have to disagree with this review on a few key points.
Living with a Taycan is way easier than he puts it. Taycan is amazing to drive, nothing comes close, and the screens are just so intuitive I love it after a week. It is great to ferry kids around, she loves it, the panoramic roof is just awesome to have for them. Extremely practical. I never wanted more space as Taycan has both the frunk and trunk.
It is like moving from a blackberry to an iPhone, remember it has Apple Music built in, you don't even need to wait for the phone to connect, you can just start the music, go over the list and start playing in a few seconds.

I've test-driven the i4 M50. It bl--dy amazing. Lots of appeals. Fantastic performance. I'd suggest it's 0 to 60 rather 3. 2 than 3. 9. What I did not like, however. Compared to my 340i the i4 seats ( the ones in my test drive) were hard until you got used to them but even then they were harder than the BMW 340i. Too much of the new v8 infotainment system to talk about here but that is an amazing upgrade from my v6. One thing that would vastly improve on the ultimate driving machine for me would be a five-year warranty. Just for peace of mind.

I love how no one cares about Taycan panel misalignment issues 10: 24. If that was a Tesla it would have been slaughtered.
With that being said, i am changing my model 3 for the i4.
It is just a much better car in every aspect besides motor efficiency, which is so small difference that really doesn't make me care enough.
People that buy Teslas and are forcefully happy with them would never get a BMW or a Porsche. They do not understand the real difference.

The crash pads for the high-voltage battery may not have been assembled. This can cause damage to the high-voltage battery in the event of a serious side crash and may cause a short-circuit increasing the risk of a fire.
The BMW i4 vehicles affected by this recall were manufactured between 15 September and 30 November 2021.
BMW recall code: 61430600
Affected models: i4.

Let's be honest.
There isn't a Taycan on the road at this price in the UK. Everything with Porsche, and i literally mean everything, is a four-figure option. While the Porsche is undoutedly brillant, the BMW is a snatch in comparison. The value for money outweighs the tradeoffs.

1) Porsche does not compet with BMW, Audi or Merc, those are premium brands and Porsche is semi-luxury and the only brand that is compering to it is Maserati
2)When you compare an i4 with the taycan is like comparing an M4 to an base 8 series in terms on luxury and space
