Mercedes-AMG C63 S video review - hybrid super saloon tested Autocar

When the new Mercedes-AMG C63 S E Performance was announced earlier this year, many were slightly shocked. There s no sign of the powerful V8s that used to define the car, both in naturally aspirated and turbocharged form, replaced by a four-cylinder hybridised powertrain. Surely this isn t befitting for Affalterbach s most well-known muscle car? Well, the electronically turbocharged 2. 0-litre four-cylinder under the bonnet is something of a feat of engineering - with 469bhp, it s the most powerful four-pot ever fitted to a production car. There s also a 201bhp electric motor that delivers power straight to the rear wheels, meaning that this super saloon has a total combined power output of 671bhp. However, all that added technology means that it s put on a bit of weight - it tips the scales at a whopping 2. 1 tonnes. So, it s fast, but is it as characterful as its predecessors? Join Matt Saunders as he takes to both the road and the track to find out. Georgi: The C63 AMG was never a lightweight, but 2100kg. damn. The new tech is cool and all, but I fail to see the point of getting one when the E63 AMG looks pretty much the same, actually weights a bit less and for not much more money comes with the V8.

I don't care if this has a 3000 hp engine. If it ain't a V8, it ain't a deal. Good luck with the maintenance costs on that extremely compressed four cylinder turbo with that battery pack. It sounds absolutely atrocious, and those taillights look disgusting. Let's see for how long this car can maintain itself in the next couple of years.

No one appears to remember the W 203 Mercedes C32 AMG with a 3, 2 liter supercharged V6 that came before the C55. It s a shame because it was a very good entry level AMG

For the same money, I d take a tidy example of an E63 from an era when you had a proper engine and didn t have to operate everything as if it were a video game.

Just seems like a really dull car. AMG are lucky BMW has decided to make cars that are ugly as F, otherwise no one buy this thing.
