Honda CR-Z Mugen Hybrid v Ariel Atom Mugen - Auto Express

Mugen is a company that doesn't do things by half -- and lately Honda's tuning arm has been extremely busy. The world's most skeletal car, the Ariel Atom has been given a power boost without the need for a supercharger. The result is a 270bhp output from its 2. 0-litre Honda-sourced engine that makes it just about the fastest thing on four wheels. Alongside the Atom Mugen we drove the CR-Z Mugen -- currently a one-off tuned version of the hybrid coupe

Congratulations, you live in Australia and i'm guessing never came to America and drove American cars. You just compared a 100K+ car with most of the terrible American cars that are sent to Europe/Australia most of which aren't even sold in America lol. Having visited both Europe and Australia and living in America I can tell you 90% of people in America drive nicer/better cars than the shitty cars most Australians/Europeans drive and thats just a sad reality.

LOOOL what half sane person has 400bhp in a crz? Maybe in america where its all power power power but in europe and japan we like a balanced car, and anyway that defeats the whole point of buying a fast honda why not just go out and buy a golf r, megane 265 cup, leon cupra r ETC, and honda still do make vtec cars they can easily choose to develop a new high powered n/a car

You make me laugh because you never visited America to see what the general population drive, I'm looking out the window of a coffee shop and I can see a mercedes s550, Honda Accord coupe, my BMW E30 318is, a Jeep Commander, and a Dodge Ram 2500. There is also a Bentley Continental GT at the other end of the parking lot. Congrats and have fun driving Fiats LOL.

I don't agree. The civic type-R could have still passed eu emissions with the addition of hybrid tech. That means we could still buy it and have fun in it. As it is we can't because Honda decided not to hybrid it. If we have to have more power and better fuel consumption - which hybrids provide - then I'm good with that.

Emissions, for one. The K20 is dead because of that. Also, pay attention to the mod community a bit and you'd see it the CR-Z powerplant can push out 400HP and still make about 40MPG. Being a hybrid def isn't a bad thing, nor is it the real design flaw of the car.

Stock CRZ owners report 43 or so Miles per gallon. But I agree. If you wanted MPGs, and to please the Honda crowd, you'd go with a Turbocharger.

Really? for any Hondas fans out there. and chances. they dont know about. Mugen! This guy has gotta be kidding! LOL!
