New MINI JCW Countryman - can MINI's hot SUV handle like a hatchback?

The new John Cooper Works Countryman joins the recently revealed JCW Clubman as the most potent MINI there has ever been. Its familiar 2. 0-litre turbo petrol engine produces 228bhp and a generous 350Nm of torque, which is enough to send it from 0-62mph in just 6. 5 seconds - and eventually to a top speed of 145mph. It-s also one of the biggest and most expensive cars to wear the famous MINI badge. The wheelbase is 19cm longer than before, and with an eye-watering list price of -30, 875 when paired with the standard-fit six-speed manual gearbox. It-ll take a committed MINI enthusiast to take the plunge, especially on this eight-speed auto, which costs -32, 590 before options

It's unfortunate he has such a rigid idea about what a Mini can be. It keeps him from appreciating the JCW Countryman for what it is. After all, what a Mini was is nearly extinct before BMW pumped cash and expertise into it. (Does he object to Bentley and Jaguar making sport utilities too) I think BMW has done a good job helping Mini evolve in the changing global market.
This is truly a unique vehicle. It is, after all, less than two inches longer than a Golf! It's far more commodious, and while the Golf R has substantially more power and weighs less, at least you can get a Countryman with a sunroof. And very few all wheel drive activity vehicle are available with a manual transmission. You might be able to get one with the F-Pace Jag, but you can't with the Porsche.
Like it or not, sales of sedans and genuine two door coupes are shrinking globally. I'm not saying I like it. I just accept it. This care has genuine character, something that is missing from most vehicles of this class.

So many people slagging this off. I'm on my 7th MINI since they were made by BMW. I've owned an F56 S since 2014 & it's been a great car. I also own a 2014 JCW Coupe that has been outstanding & I don't plan on selling it - ever. The F56 is going to be replaced in July for a Countryman Cooper S. Maybe it's me, but I have never regretted owning any of them. My first Mini was a 1959 & I'm sure if Sir Alec was alive today he would have applauded the fact that his 'baby' was still evolving to suit what the market wants. Okay this isn't a Mini, but none of the new generation are. MINI is a brand not a stuck in the past economy car to replace the 3 wheelers of its day & this is the 21st century. isn't it?

He is completely missjudging the car. The car is not a Cooper, is a small SUV Countryman. So judge it as it is. And the fact that the brand is Mini it doesn't mean anymore that it has to be mini, it just a -new- brand with a lot of models like any other brand. Come on man is common sense. If you like it or not is just personal taste. Period.

I own an f55 s and love it. I also had the privilege to test the countryman hybrid model and I would choose that over the jcw. I clocked 0-62mph in 5. 8 seconds, no joke that car was insane with the torque from the electric motor. If your out looking for a jcw try the phev version too. Yeah no bangs or pops but that didn't matter it's amazing.

They've fattened the brand up to it's max because buyers keep upgrading. It's silly, the 'Mini' isn't cool anymore.
I briefly thought a Fiat 500 was a Bentley Bentayga the other day. Stop listening to consumers so much and force us to buy things we can complain about again.

Owner of an F56 Cooper S hatch here. The hatch comes in sub 1200kgs, how BMW managed to make the Countryman 400kgs heavier I'm not sure. If they a building an SUV version give it something unique, don't just make it the ugly and fat sister of the Cooper S, which is what they did.

I thought he was on a one way street the way he was driving, but it's obvious now that he really doesn't know how to drive that car. At 6' 4- I love mine, and it handles curves way better than that, the inside feels like a spaceship, and after 2 years, it's still a cool car to drive.

MINI is a brand like any other car and it does not mean SMALL and because MINI in English means small does not mean MINI as a brand have to produce small cars period. By the way Mini Countryman has now from Julie 2019 306 HP and accelerates 5, 1 to 62 miles/hour

The styling is awful inside and out. The 11'-16' Countryman has so much more character and still feels like a MINI. And it weighs about 400lbs less than the new ones. MINI has a reputation of making nice cars and then the -man- gets to it and ruins it.

Not a good car. JCW IS SIMPLY THE BEST! one of the funniest I've ever driven in my life, AND I'M SORRY BUT THIS GENTLEMAN DOESN'T UNDRESTAND ANYTHING ABOUT THE MINI'S WORLD. I RACCOMEND THAT YOU CHANGE JOB.
