Tyre test: just how dangerous are worn tyres? Finnish: Some of these comments. :'D Am I reading them wrong, or are people actually trying to defend crappy old worn or cheap tires? It's like people wouldn't know that new set of quality tires is much better on wet conditions. Are those the same people who fall into -anti-vax- and -flat earthern- category? :D
It doesn't matter who's driving or if -ESP on/off- or any of that. The fact is, worn out or cheap (like some chinese tires for example) tires will not perform as well in wet as new set of some quality brand tires. Sure, worn out tires might work better in dry (but only on tarmac tho) but once you start to factor in that they also could be old tires (old DOT, then you're better off with some good fresh ones.

It is wellknown, 1. 6mm is still safe and it is still usable up to that point. Replacing before that point is a waste of money and bad for environment. What we need is to disposed and prevent crappy tire from the market that are not even safe even at 3mm thread depth. Worn tires has lower rolling resistance and better handling in dry condition.

would have been interesting if you would have added old tires, like 8-10 years old, to the test. because lot of people who drive only few miles a year think their tyres are still ok but in fact they are old, hard like a stone, do not loose any profile (because they are hard) and have no grip.

So the first two tyres she didn't event try to correct for the spin and the last she did but we never seen an in car camera of her then and thats because she wasn't driving the car with the new tyres on.

Why they didn't make the breaking test on the same path as the other tests? there's something on the surface between those yellow marks that make the car go unbalanced before entering into the wet area.

It would have been more useful if you specified what you mean by -Budget- tyres as there are some excellent tyres that cost less than full price makes. Which -Budget tyres were you testing?
reply

In all fairness she did have 2 practice slides before doing the 3rd with the new tyres so she knew what to expect with the slide
