New Cupra Ateca review - how does Cupra's first solo car stack up?

Ok, Cupras first car should have been a Leon, it's the car most associated with the brand going for yet ANOTHER SUV to add to the wealth of oversized, car park space hogging, difficult to see round, poorly driven cars was a very big let down, especially given that the new Leon is no doubt due sometime next year what an awesome way that would have been to launch the brand.
On side note anyone notice that this 2Ltr, 7spd DSG seemed to be missing the very distinctive DSG farts on the up shift?

It-s very nice but it-s going to fail at the price they are selling it for (37k-40k and that-s without optional extra bucket seats. Badges aside it is still a Seat and you can get a better spec-d Golf R estate or Tiguan R Line for the same price. The first thing that hits me in the face is the infotainment screen which is from the 2016 model VWs and the entire VW range comes with more modern higher res displays now as standard. That alone will sway people away from buying this at the current price.

Why buy this car? If you want a fast SUV, buy a used RS Q3, which has the same engine as the RS3. Which also can be easily tuned to 400bhp etc. The same as a Porsche Macan. The Cupra is incredibly pointless but as with all first new performance brand cars, e. g. Kia with the Stinger GTS and the i30N, They will be future classics after heavy depreciation.

This was one of the least helpful reviews that I've seen. The fact that it doesn't sound loud and isn't more than 300 hp makes it more appealing to a family man who wants to have fun and use the car for daily commute. And that's why it is bigger than a hatchback.
Dude you shouldn't compare this to a hatchback or a Porsh Mccane. BTW seen the price?

Wish he talked a bit more about the ride and general usability here. Nobody is buying one as a drivers car, they're buying it as an SUV, and that's all I'm interested in.
Guess I'll have to go try one. Wonder what the leasing deals are like.

Even though this is a Crossover/SUV, wouldn-t a Golf R (5 door/Estate) be a comparable rival to this? I would like to drive these two back to back to see whether getting the Cupra is a better choice than a Golf R.

It's smart, stylish and sporty. As you said, shame about the engine note but hopefully Cupra can work on that in the future. Very appealing vehicle though. and overall great value!

Thank christ they designed the screen into the dash and not lazily just stuck it on as an afterthought as manufacturers are want to do nowadays.
