a simple crank no start get a little wild or should I say hot on this 2003 Jeep Liberty Sport 3. 7 4x4. A code P0320 should be pretty cut and dry right? Lets have a look!

Eric, I dont think youll ever go wrong putting the correct NGK plugs in anything. Ive had problems with almost every other brand of plug in some circumstance, but NGK seems to work in everything.
As for coils, Ive had some crazy things happen with coil over plug failures. One coil fails and then somehow all the others are stressed out and fail to spark at compression pressure too. Knowing how these things work, I cant explain how that could happen, but it did.

In regards to connecting the charger with the key on: I once connected a 20ish amp charger to a Ford Tempo with a dead battery while the headlight switch was on. The headlight bulbs flared on like flashbulbs and burned out. A couple of months ago my boss hooked up a 200 amp charger/starter to a Dodge Cummins while the key was on. We had to replace the PCM and a few days later the ECU had P0606 and had to be replaced. The Dodge might just be a coincidence though.

Call me silly, but I look at Dodge cam/crank sensors as wear items. I'm a Dodge guy. and replace both sensors every 75K miles. On my trucks they're cheap and easy. Part of a tuneup in my book. I'm leaving money on the table. I know. But it's too easy not to do when I'm under the hood. Haven't looked ahead in the video to see what caused the problem. Can't wait to find out what the culprit was!

I know this is an older video but a thought on the key on coil fire - if the crank sensor was shorted and not working - to where the engine died, maybe - that happened when coil 4 was on the fire trigger in the ecm. That could possibly explain why the coil appeared energized when you were doing the key on charging. just a thought.

so you are saying that there is no real explanation for the coil melt down. ECU has been proved control and the ASD relay has been proved. is it possible that there was a stray audio or backup cam install that faulted the ECU? just curious. what in the finer. Eric. you Sir are a professional Tech.

What purpose does charging with the key on serve if any? The good thing is that you caught the melt down in action. That could've gone extremely bad. oh no, now what. Damn, a cliffhanger! At least I don't have to wait for part 2 since I'm on a catch up binge. Thanks for the video.

Interesting that the same circuits - injectors, coils, CPS work in the same circuits or inline with the wire diagrams that the coil shorting could have taken out the Crankshaft position sensor? All those ignition components are working simultaneously together.

In a GOOD design you build in a second circuit to shut off coil power if the regular timing circuit gets stuck. Like a bog simple resistor and capacitor, which can't crash like software can. Ten cents of insurance to prevent the expensive sizzles.

I got a 2010 Liberty which has no power coming a crossed the fuse to the fuel pump. It has had some misfires, but would start. Right now it is not starting. Got any ideas? I realize that you would be guessing not to have it in front of you. Thanks

Havent watched part 2 yet. Calling a bad computer or Definite short of a constant power feed him into the primary coil circuit that was possibly disturbed when he unplugged that first coil let the smoke out
