The older B vans you mentioned had the engines further back into the cab so you had to remove the doghouse to do alot of stuff. They didn't have tensioners back then either, had to hold a crowbar while tightening. I stil have one, eventually I have to get into it and replace some of the vacuum lines. vents/defrost isn't redirecting air from the blower. Not looking forward to it! Great video though!

Those tensioners fail in odd ways too. I've had a few that initially seemed okay but when you took the belt off and ran them thru their stroke you could feel they weren't working smoothly right in the range where they'd be with the belt on. Probably could lube them and work them enough to get back right but in my case it was easier to replace and be done with it.

When those belts go bad and the heat is applied to the pulleys that causes lose of lubricant inside of the pulley i. e. the lubricant boils out according to the manufacturer of the pulley system. They would recommend putting lubricant back into the pulley or could stop turning and cause the loss of other pulleys are even damage the engine.

Is there any type of solvent or spray that can get all the gunk off the pulleys? and are there any videos on removing pulleys on early 00s honda civics? And when you have a bad tensioner pulley, then you have to get a whole new alternator? you cannot just take off the pulley and replace it?
Thanks! your video are so informative!

Free lifetime replacement for cheap reman. 'alternators', but is it free? If you have a vehicle where the alternator is buried,
free replacement isn't free. If you have to pay a mechanic to do the labor, you would have been much better off spending
the extra money to begin with and buy a brand new oem alternator.

my 2000 v6 1500 dodge has recently started squealing but it is not insanely loud and doesn't seem to be affecting anything. it has only done this since it has gotten colder and more wet around where I live. I know belts tend to squeal when it is heavily damp outside. could it be that or this?

I recently changed the alternator, belt, tensioner, and idler pulley on my 93 Chevy G20 van. Low mileage but it was the years. Got my parts through Rock Auto. New Remy alternator and Gates belt, tensioner, and Idler pulley.

Would a 2000 ram 3500 maxi van be pretty similar in steps? Belt routing might differ obviously. Never touched this van before. Bought it end of summer to turn into a camper. Belt started flailing this morning.

Good job! Like that pick around the pulley for cleaning. Especially the crank with the engine running!
Great Video!
I hope you and Mrs. O and the family have a Wonderful, Happy, Merry Christmas!
