Short video describing how you might find a leak in an intake manifold using a smoke machine and your scan tool. This is a 2007 Toyota Corolla S with a 1. 8L. Very similar to the Vibe and Matrix. The check engine light was on with a P0171 Lean Bank 1 Code. Really common and a really easy fix. Leave your questions in the comments and subscribe to our channel

A 2000 Corolla is known to have gasket leaking when it is old as a common problem. Inability to climb mild inclines and rough running is odd for a Toyota 1. 8L engine. I replaced fuel injectors (rebuilt, warranted set for 130) and coils and got platinum NGK plugs and at last. had the intake manifold GASKET replaced for fairly cheap. Problem disappeared on GASKET replacement after the 3 other things were done. At 275K miles on the odometer!

Help plz. 2005 Corolla with p0171. So far have changed the maf with Toyota oem part. Replaced both o2 sensors with denso. Changed intake gasket. Changed catalytic converter due to a leak. Fuel pressure reads at 49 psi. Removed and cleaned fuel injectors. No vacuum leak. Car running very rough at idle. At idle, short term fuel at 0 and long at 25. At 2000 rpm, short at -4 and long jumps to 40. Any ideas plz.

Hi, great video thanks. I have the problem, which I understand is quite common on these, where the revs at idle, surge up & down around 2k revs when the engine is first stated, particularly from cold. I understand that a leaking intake gasket can be the cause of this problem, but my fuel trims look normal (around 0. I was wondering if you know of any other causes of this surging idle problem? Many thanks.

I'm having a problems with my 2008 Matrix, I really need to floor it to get up to highway speeds or maintain speed up hills. The car does vibrate at idle, not excessively but noticeable, and sometimes when I put into gear it it feels like the engine wants to cut off. The car only has 84, 000 miles and there is no engine light on. I was wondering if the problem you mentioned might be causing this.

They said its not my intake manifold and my engine light is still on? I keep being told I have an emissions leak, but where would that be at, I cant pay 500 dollars to someone to fix my 13 year old car its a 2005 Toyota Corolla CE and I am being told when I go for my smog it wont pass unless I get the engine light to go off for good? Please help me to learn how to fix my car

Hi, I have corolla 2001 and high idle at warm engine and low idle at low temperature engine. I changed the coolest temperature sensor, and throttle body and there is no code at all in the computer, the problem still. What is the problem?

Great how to video. Question: I have a 2006 Corolla Matrix with 73k miles, runs perfect-no error codes. Should I clean throttle body and MAF sensor just to be proactive or should I leave them alone? Thanks.

Great video, so in this example it was the valve cover gasket that was leaking? Could you further explain why those two pids mean in terms of where the leak would be coming from if you have those values?

Just diagnosed a 2000 celica with the same issue! Almost was going to call the O2 sensor because it would lag but did the brake fluid test and it tested positive for a intake leak. Good info!
