I bring you through the process I use to diagnose a crank, no start on a Chevrolet Tahoe. I was told this happened right after the customer changed his power steering pump? Could that be related to the issue? Let's find out

This is the famous broken grounds on the 6. 0 and the 5. 3L. I know both banks run to the same ground terminal just behind the P/S pump. They are famous for breaking off. Once that happens no spark. The stealership just runs a new ground wire where its easy to get at on the top harness and ground it somewhere else. I do have a question though. My sister's bf had a 2004 GMC 2500HD with the 6. 0. At about 150, 000 miles the engine was misfiring pretty bad and it would not always happen. My scan tool showed number 2 and number 8 and other cylinders having high counts when it acted up. But the misfire was not always there. It would have a misfire here and there. Then out of the blue it would barely run. Well after checking everything but compression on each cylinder he decided to have me rev it up aittle. He noticed the coolant tank was bubbling when I did it which tells me it was a blown head gasket/cracked head. Does these 6. 0L engines blow them because the block is cast iron and with aluminum heads? Kinda like how the Ford 3. 8L had the same issue because of the block being cast iron and the aluminum heads. I do remember you having a video where the 5. 3L engine had a cracked head near one of the head bolts. He did trade it in for a 2011 1500 with 5. 3L which just over 100, 000 miles.

Great classic SMA diagnostic basics once again save lots of time. And I feel bad for the owner s DIY power steering job that ended up disabling his truck but that s how even somewhat modern vehicles are these days. One can also argue the engineers at GM should know better and use a more robust ground scheme for something so critical requiring a tow truck if one wire low in the engine bay is damaged or suffers corrosion and disables all 8 coils. If only GM could design the rest of their vehicles and electrical systems as well as the actual small block/LS gen 2 and gen 3 V8s which almost never break themselves unlike say the Dodge V8s with rocker arms that fall off, Jeep s with no oil pressure, Fords with expensive valve train issues, etc.

Seems if it ran before you did power serving pump and then it wouldn't run afterwards 1st place I would look would be down around that pump. Spend 20 get a service manual they are worth their wiring diagrams alone. I just replaced power steering cooler and pressure line on my 04 Silverado so very familiar with The vehicle and engine compartment. 6: 40 in the morning cup of coffee and som sma. Now time for work. Thank you Eric O for the video you in the family and Jason and josh, all stay healthy.

Eric, and to other mechanics, are you finding vehicles with unusual or expected faults, breakage and stuffs from vehicles sitting so long sonce the virus shutdowns and less use of our cars? I have 2 cars, 1 of them sat for 2 months, I used other only to go to supermarket. The 2nd car when I opened it up after 2 months sitting, had mould on seatbelts, and the front wheel bearings had worn out just sitting. I usually alternate between both cars each fortnight.

I had to laugh when I saw the steering column covers off I just diagnosed an 04 silverado with the big fire breathing 4. 3, customer installed spark plugs, wires, ignition coil, and fuel pump then he went after part of the theft system in the steering column, at least he stopped there. Turns out it was the ignition control module. I love my PICO SCOPE!

Eric, you've been saying If I can do it, you can go it as your tag line or years. But we all know that aint true, otherwise the dude would have double checked his own work.
Love the videos. And the stealership ise to hate me for doing no part repairs and fixing the bad ground wire on the ol Fords.

Great video! I have a 05 Silverado. There are a number of videos on ground issues for these vehicles. I've used the videos as a preventative measure and cleaned up a number of ground connections. Seems like a common thing as these vehicles age. Probably a good thing to eyeball when servicing.

Thought I was going to say SNAP again, First job this morning had spark with no injector pulse mine was rodent snacking at the ECU. Towed in by NRMA as fuel pump don't work. 1 minute in fuel pump buzzing, OK lets start from the basics, thanks Eric for the inspiration.

98 Corvette, Wants to run but stops after about 1/2 second of running. The battery had been dead for months, and then replaced. In my case the ECM and the BCM have lost each others passwords. I am looking at expensive reprogram now.
