My sister was the Head Writer on the Dodge Ram Pick-up truck Service Manual from 1992 to 2005. She was a Certified Professional Technical Communicator by The Society for Technical Communication, which began in World War I in 1917, 105 years ago. It is quite difficult to translate the language the design engineers use to describe what should happen during a diagnosis and repair, into language the mechanic can follow to actually do the repair in the shop. She won an industry award for the vast improvement she made to these manuals. The writer she replaced learned English when she moved to America in her late twenties! My sister knew that every single manual would have errors such as this video shows. Her goal was to reduce them as much as humanly possible.

Even so I could never find the information I needed in the Microsoft Help Manuals, because Bill Gates said, Our Software Engineers write the manuals, because they know how the programs work, and Technical Writers do not. So you would get this To merge two Word Documents into one document select both in the Merge Window. No hint as to how to activate, or get to, the Merge Window. Searching the entire manual for Merge Window would get you nothing because the Software Engineer who created it calls it the Files Selection Window. The Microsoft manuals were rife with this sort of nonsense, until finally, in 2005 after 20 year of impossible-to-use manuals, Microsoft created a Technical Writing Department to create manuals for all of their software. Now every time I see a Technical Term in their manual it is a hypertext link to the page that describes it.

Well I have the same problem 2000 Toyota Camry LE 4 cylinder. When I close the driver door with the key in the ignition it goes click click. The girl told me it was the a power door lock actuator. The rear passenger door lock is burnt out. It does work at all. I went to Toyota. David at Toyota told me to buy a aftermarket actuator. I can manually use the key to open the driver door. I can go to the front passenger door put the key in the door It'll open that door and the rear drivers side passenger door. That weird. Plus none of the Camry windows go up or down. I'm not going to spend another hot Spring or Summer not being able to put my windows down. Why I'm writing you is to see if the girl at O'reilly's is right. Is it the power door lock actuator?

if it ain't broke don't fix it the old system was trouble free super easy to diag like those much better. its like abs module so many things go thru it that aren't needed. have a friend with a 2007 f150 most of the time you can switch off the truck put key in pocket and it keeps running only way to switch off when it does it unplug abs module shuts off. there is no reason for the truck running to be affected by abs

I had the same problem on a Subaru after replacing the battery, except the fix was much easier, just had to reprogram the switch by standing in my head, pushing the start button three times and doing the hokey pokey then activating the switch and like magic it worked again. Actual steps I don t remember but it was simple, nothing like thanks for replacing the battery but hey you broke my power windows!

When I worked in molecular biology there were people I called protocol readers. They had no clue why they were doing each step in a protocol. When things didn't work out, which was often, they had no clue how to troubleshoot. I always taught the people I worked with to understand exactly what you were doing at all times and why! Don't just be a sheep and follow instructions. 13: 50

Flowcharts illustrate the difference between just following instructions and systems thinking. The latter trains the tech to ask why am I doing this, and identify when you shouldn't. Someone who just blindly follows the chart has gained nothing. On spam calls, I've gotten to the point where if I don't recognize the number, I don't answer it. Great video as always, Eric, and thanks!

When working on a circuit you have never messed with before you can have lots of data and books but here's my advice treat it like your the bomb squad and it's unknown device don't ground out or jump anything unless your 100%sure were it goes what it does and aways use a fused jumper or a power probe I like my model 3 with amp setting on the breaker circuit

That's gonna be a reoccurring issue, if like me, they drive with the windows cracked/open in the rain. The door is perfectly designed to have the drip land right into the switch.
I fixed my Sierra by opening the switch.
Cleaning all the contacts.
Flowing silver solder on contacts.
A few years, no more issues.

Quite the coincidence- My 2007 Silverado driver window just stopped working and I fired the parts cannon at it, replacing the switch. Still nothing. Turns out there was a broken wire in the loom that runs from the door to cabin. If I had followed your normal procedures, I would have saved the cost of the switch.
