That is one of the BIGGEST ASS KICKINGs i have ever seen between cars of similar size power and weight, even on a roll Honda appears slow even if it kind of fast in modern terms or at least average but appears properly slow agaisnt a friggin VW. Whats the lesson, the majority of Type R buyers want a fast street car and arent track driving and bought the wrong car, even for track being FWD they bought the wrong car cuz being the fastest FWD track car is like having the thickest small weiener. Girth IS better then not but you what some of both. Yeah, Kids that measure their life or wiener a quarte rmile at a time should get something else. The car also makes women dry if they look at it which is a disadvantage if your a young guy that likes women.
Would love to know the % of owners who regularly or even once track their Honda Civic type R, its an all around silly car IMO unless YOU NEED BOTH 4 seats AND FWD for some wierd reason and track drive a bunch or your wife wants you to buy it to keep you from attracting women.

The Type Rs engine will hold 600+whp
The Golf Rs engine will bend rods around 425whp
Tuned the CTR will walk away from the Golf R easily
If you want a proper awd sedan just get an RS3 and call it day - smash a Golf R stock and tuned lol
A big issue as to way the 1/4 times are slower in the Civic is the low 3k soft limiter. weak launch
Honda also limits power in 1st and 2nd
Test both cars from around 50mph in 3rd gear. Civic will pull at full power. notice how long the Civic was side by side. thats at 280whp. bolt-ons and e20 tune is around 400whp. much different outcome lol

I think that Civic is quite ugly, but a car with no human element in the gearbox vs a car with a human element is like putting a hummingbird against a fruit fly. Equal power or not, it will never be a completely fair race for both cars/drivers. Then there's the drivetrain difference. Autos are always faster nowadays, but a manual is less likely to be stolen from you since so few people know how to drive them anymore.

In my 1999 WRX I raced againts a type R. I ripped it so hard off the line that his extra power is the only reason it was quicker than me. A brand new type R couldn't even get half a car length over on a 20 year old car.
Add some water on the road and the Civic is not going anywhere.

THIS IS why I say. I much prefer the old INFINITI G37x with AWD. to this brand new Nissan Z car -funny looking-
Not to mention the old special edition G37 IPL or the Convertible version. I find that New Z redundant & bested by a car from the 2000s. - Sorry Nissan, it's a step backwards!

VW's are pieces of rubbish. They probably had tape covering up the check engine light for the video. At the end of the day, Hondas are vastly superior vehicles when they're new and will stay together better in the long run.

All that extra weight in the golf. Forget about it on the track.
Anyone can take off fast in a straight line, the type r is so much more of a drivers car with ability that the heavy golf just does not have.

Remember - the ugly Golf has illegal software on it - it spreads to 370hp - Civic has round about 330 - make software on the civic with full flat shift and launch control maybe that looks complete different; -)

Auto gearboxes make all the difference. Boring as anything though and so not something I would ever buy. The 8R is a terrible car due to its infotainment controlling everything and having no control knobs.

Golf r is so quick off the line great for drag racing, but I still prefer the looks of the civic type r plus it's a manual so more engaging to drive and fun, I'd choose the civic type r anyday --
