If you're in the market for a new car (whether new or used, have you ever wondered how reliable the car you're choosing actually is? Well, wonder no more! We've teamed up with Warrantywise to provide a list of the 15 least reliable cars you can buy! Now one thing to consider is that these cars are all older generation cars, as any new model is likely to still be covered by a manufacturer warranty. However, it still helps to give you an idea of which brands and types of cars seem to be the worst offenders when it comes to reliability! The question is, are you surprised by any of the cars on this list? And more importantly, would you still consider buying a car that's featured in this video! Let us know in the comments! Disclaimer: average repair costs collated over a period between 2021 and 2022. Since the sample was selected, Warrantywise has seen a significant rise in the price of labour and parts, which will impact future repair costs.

Bit weird having the price of repairs as the main criterion. Just because a car brand has more expensive parts and more expensive cost of repair doesn't make them more unreliable. Reliability should be measured mainly by how often something goes wrong and how important that thing is. If you want to include the cost, what should matter there is how expensive that is compared to other stuff that can go wrong on the very same car. Of course the list is going to be full of expensive cars but it's not really saying anything.

Quite a few of these obviously don't apply at all to the model since the error is specific to either petrol engines or a certain size of engine. Look at 6 cyl Diesel BMWs and the faults are close to zero after 2012 for example. Actually in almost all cases the issues are related to petrol engines whereas the diesel choice is much more reliable. Unsurprising. Especially when you disable the EGR system, which all sane diesel owners shoul do, and do: P

I drive 50k miles a year for work and around 10k personal. Purely anecdotal and take with a pinch of salt but when I see a car on the hard shoulder it s pretty much always a BMW. One trip a few weeks ago fro Wakefield to Preston I saw three 3 series BMWs on the hard shoulder. That s one trip It s probably confirmation bias at this point but it s what I see

W221 s350 CDI is a non-reliable car? That's dumb and funny. It can have problems with electrics but this car can fix it, just give it some time. Engine can go up to 1million km without serious repairs. You will need just to change the turbo and gearbox 3 times. just love your car and will bring you to the edge of the world.

For me judging a car s reliability based on repair cost doesn t make sense, it would make more sense to judge them based on the frequency of the vehicle having issues. Repair cost does count to a certain extent but shouldn t be the only metric in judging the reliability of anything, whether it s a car or a TV

So the moral is avoid anything German or anything from Landrover pretty much. Shocking results generally and a word of warning! Totally not good enough in my view. We should all speak with our wallets and teach these manufacturers that were not happy being treated like t.

I will call this 50% BS, cause Audi A7, Q7 and Cayenne, if they use the 3. 0 TDI base engine, its the same. So all 3 cars should have the injectors fault, but only the A7 does. We need more data. How many A7 they have insured, and how many had injector problems.

9 German cars in this list. And that's why I'd never have one or recomend one but yet people buy them because they are lead to believe they are more reliable. No fiat alpha Vauxhall kia hyundai in here which is what people assume the list would be made up of.

Where are the Alfas, or the rest of the Stellantis group for that matter? Perceived quality or engineering prowess of german cars is over rated it would seem or at least based on 20, 30 or 40 years ago. Expensive does not equal reliable.

Mazda and Ford are trash cheap vehicles that need too many repairs. Considering Bentley audi and Mercedes have electrical problems (way too over engineered) can't wait to see the new Dodge ram and SUV like wagoner having similar problems

WOW.
Look at this. How truthful at least. 1 French car on the list that had issues cause it had BMW engine in it, and no Italian cars.
Who is unreliable now.
Alfa Romeo kicking Your but there that everyone loves to hate?

Just shows that German built cars aren't the best to buy 2nd hand.
No Jaguars in the bottom 15?
Just proves how much you reporters know.
Always dissing Jaguar, yet much more reliable than the German competition.

People always told me that expensive German cars are the most reliable. yes I am from Germany they told me also that Japanese cars have the worst built quality. Thats what marketing did to their understanding of cars
