All-new i7 M70 review - is it the best BMW EVER?

This is the BMW i7 M70! The M70 is the performance version of the premium all-electric i7 released in 2022, and its design is a bit more aggressive with extensive black trim, sportier bumpers and 21-inch alloy wheels as standard with aerodynamic trim. But if you thought the sporty upgrades would translate to the cabin, not so much - it s just as plush as the standard i7, although there are some M tricolour flashes and other M upgrades in there to keep it interesting. However, with the M70 s impressive power upgrade comes an eye-watering price hike! So is it worth the extra expense? Mat has all the answers for you to see if it stacks up against the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53+!

BMW's budget Rolls Royce. I agree the instant hard acceleration is not what these luxury salons are about for 99% of it's owners. So why even bother joining the EV horsepower race that Tesla started. Next to being uncomfortable, that much power is just totally pointless on public roads anyway. If you want a 7-series EV, get the regular i7 that still has way more than enough power and spec it out to your liking. The M60 and M70 are just part of BMW's modern marketing nonsense. Silly useless status symbols for the ' look at me with my M version crowd.

Don't get why Mat keeps comparing the i7 with Tesla Plaid. They are very different cars. The Plaid is a very high powered sports saloon and a lot small/lighter. The i7 is far more luxurious, refined, better built, with a much more comfortable ride, that, while not as fast as the Plaid, is also very quick on its own right.
So, when May says if you want a quick EV just buy the Plaid, what if you want a quick EV that's also the hight of luxury and comfort, which Plaid is not? They are aimed at different customers.

Not interested in ev
Useless cars that can only pull away quick
No good for long distances
And this car is not for The working people
It more for a run down to the local golf course.
And back to the six bedroom six
Bathroom house with own private driveway.
Get back to combustion engines
You know the engines that has little impact on the Brazilian rainforest
Not unlike the tesla that get their nickel for their batteries from Brazil.

I bet it s lovely to drive but the whole point of these luxo barges is the you are supposed to be able to drive for hundreds and hundreds of miles in pure luxury. These will tank because a true range of 250 miles In the real world is awful when they don t have access to proper charging network. In fact all manufacturers attempting to build luxury ev vehicles are stuffed bar Tesla and you can see it when you look at used prices now of Taycan, Audi etron RS etc

5: 08 Is this much perfomance necessary? No, anything above say 200-250hp is overkill and rarely useful on public roads. But is it fun to have this much performance? Of course it is! Does it make the ride less comfortable? Not necessarily. This is an electric car, so programming in smooth throttle response for a comfortable ride should be trivial. If this car doesn't have that capability, that's not the performance's fault, that's the programmer's fault.

I actually think the normal 7 series looks ok. The M sport versions look horrendous. Its not even the grille. that weird black plastic around the main beam, breaks into the air intake and wraps around the under side of the grille which is also black. and the top lip of front bumper. ugly and makes no sense
As for the EVs. as far as EVs go with looks. its actually still better off

Comparing a full size luxury executive saloon with a mid size Tesla model S Plaid and still wondering why it's slower. like comparing apples to pears.
The Tesla weighs 4, 766 pounds and has 1020 hp.
The BMW weighs 5929 pounds and only has 660 hp.
Seen the weight and power advantage I'd say that the Tesla is really slow as it's only 0, 9 seconds faster compared to the BMW.

I don't understand the point to make a 7 series fast, agile really. This car is not for a sporty driver, this kinda cars driven by the big bosses you know and even they don't drive themselves. The way they need to go is just more efficient motors and more range. 3. 3 second 0-100 but real world range 400kmish or maybe less if they drive faster on highway, so what's the point?

Exterior design is debateable, i like the back, i dont know about the front. i looks overdone, like 2 ideas togetter, but non of them shines more. Some people may love it i still be tryin to understand it while thinking about it. Id rather go for somethink that fits me more like KIA or Range Rover: P

It's the fast Autobahn travel model.
But insane how BMW manage to get so much traction from such a tank!
There aren't many car makers out there, who are able to control 2. 8 tons in that manner.
Brutal and impressive, those motors would rip apart my van with that punch

I've seen the i7s a lot here on the Autobahn in Germany. And if it's completely black it looks really good, especially in Person.
Not a big fan of any other Colours on it, but the i7 in black really grew on me
Prost & Cheers from Berchtesgaden on the Bavarian Alps

Good car that I7 M70 but high performance luxury cars are pointless because they aren t designed to drive hard, they are designed to be driven comfortably and smoothly, and it s electric so it won t feel like a proper M light bmw apart from the straight line performance

Always surprises me when I see one on the road. They are sooooo big looking. Like. They are taller than some of the electric crossovers that have come out (EV6. It looks big enough to be a small suv. Very imposing car. Like a slightly bigger rolls royce.

3: 12 ooh, an i5 as a camera car
14: 30 I wonder if brake lights were engaged the moment regen kicked in. Because it seems like some of the EVs can slow down faster than ICE cars while engine braking and this is a bit annoying.

reply

Hard for the looks to grow on me but atleast the kept the same overall shape so the car still has some presence!
Side note: Matt said it has slightly less hp than an eqs amg but puts up a graphic saying the bmw has 2hp more

reply

Yes Mat, I can understand your verdict. You don't like the car, but you also don't want BMW to never invite you out to events ever again. So you compromised and said that we should shortlist the car if we're in the UK
reply

It looks like one of those Chinese 'luxury' cars that are an amalgamation of multiple European luxury sedans, yet, manages to make them all appear in their worst possible way. Great job BMW!
reply

it's actually more like the Samsung fold/flip, which are exactly the same, but for much more money. iPhone is actually slightly cheaper in the UK than last yr, and the same in the US.
reply

Man are these ugly! Did they have a mass lobotimization program post Chris Bangle? Thank you BMW for removing the temptation to squander not nconsequenrial sums of discretionary assets.
reply

Great video from carwow as always. But car is hideous. Front end is like current m3 -just straight up ugly. Interior is shocking with all those touch buttons and screens everywhere.
