SCOTTY - YOU FORGOT: - 1998-2003 Toyota corolla Engines with the bad/undersized piston rings that caused notorious p0420 emissions-related-failed catalytic converter type problems, due to inefficient combustion, burning oil and blow-by that caused the failed emissions. Millions of cars were plagued with Toyotas oversight on this major issue that never got enough attention. I had a chevy prizm 2002 with this particular problem, and had known another 4 other people with the same, era-corolla, whove had the same exact problems of the p420 codes that could never go away and their cars never passing emissions. I had to put in two other catalytic converters just to pass emissions for a few years in a row. the only remedy was to rebuild the pistons and put in the proper sealing rings. other that car would have been just fine if they built them correctly the first time. after 04, the fixed the problems in these motors.

Its clear which brands he likes and which ones he hates. All except for GM. Sure, when he has the opportunity to dump on a specific GM car that sucked (looking at you Cavalier, Cruze, he does it. But they are few and far between. Nothing like how much he dumps on Chrysler and Fiat. In the video where he dumped on GM trucks, he was only dumping on those trucks with 4 cylinder engines. (Not the base V6 and not the amazing V8 lineup. But you wont hear him say that the V8s are good. I think he knows GM has some good vehicles but doesnt want to acknowledge it.

Just to clear things up some people think Yamaha made some Toyota engines but they didnt they had designed a few and were completely made and tested by Toyota. The boxer engine gt86 and the new supra is a different story although I hear from one journalist the new bmw supras engine is also tested and tweaked by Toyota in Japan but using existing bmw engine platform and parts and its failure analysts dun at Toyota in japan as they had to revise the bmws engine because it did not meet Toyota reliability standards.

Scotty, I couldnt agree more with Toyota and sports car. The old inline 6 supras were the pinnacle of their sports cars as far as Im concerned. This new BMW supra has done nothing but make the last gen supras price sky rocket. And we all know, with BMW cars comes BMW problems. I guess thats the nature of the beast. Been a Toyota fan since I started driving 15+ years ago and always enjoy hearing the ups and downs of Toyotas on your channel. Thanks for all the automotive educational content you dish out.

I disagree with Scotty about the Toyota Tercel. There still are many Toyota tercels on the road here in Florida. The biggest problem with the last three generations was the interference engines that would throw rods and self destruct if the timing belt snapped. Hes also forgetting about the short-lived Toyota built Daihatsu cars that were sold here. They were pretty Scion flops. The Daihatsu charade head only three cylinders

Here in the uk 2006 to 2009 Evensis ( a flash Camry trying to compete with BMW) 2. 2 d4d diesel blown head gasgets poor fuel economy and crappy dpf and egr valves ( I know I own one) same engine in RAV4, Lexus all gave problems they now use a BMW designed engine. My petrol Kia gets better fuel economy than the evensis. The hiluxs in Australia and NZ major DPF isuses costing owners a ton of money Toyota does make crap

My great grandparents bought a Toyota tercel in 84 that car went down the family line. Them. My parents and then me. It was a very good car low maintenance like my next car used 93 Chevrolet cavalier. That thing had broken wires; the dashboard would flash now and then and even kill the whole car while driving in the city. I got rid of that soon as I could after that it was a safety hazard. OH MAN

Like a big dummy, about 15 years ago I bought one of those toyota diseal wagons used, . the oil consumption was worse than the fuel consumption. It turned into a rust bucket tin can that blew as much black smoke as a steam train. I dumped it lesson learned. the second big mistake on cars any one can make is to get the north star engine in a Cadillac.
