My father in law has a 2008 Silverado, and Ive gotta say its (for the most part) REALLY easy to work on. Ive replaced quite a few parts on it, and its got a 4. 3 liter V6 which isnt a great engine at all, but theres so much room in that engine bay since they normally cram a v8 with a blower in it that you can just unbolt anything right off the block and away you go. I replaced a hub and the brake pads in like an hour and Id never done it on that vehicle before. Its even got manual cranking windows and no keyless entry, so theres very little in the way of electrical to go wrong (well, for a 2008 vehicle. Also Ive got a Tech 2 so I can pull up all the sensors and run solenoid checks and all kinds of good stuff, now its impossible to do that kind of thing without a 3, 000 tool. As far as a 2019 Chevy would go? Yeah. Im not so sure. Ive worked in the used car industry for 5 years now and Ive gotta say the 2012 up Chevys seem to be a little extra cheap, like competing with Kia kind of cheap. They used to be relatively robust vehicles but they really switched it up after the recession.

I have had a lot of Chevy and Ford trucks over the years and they both make good trucks. I left Ford when they put out that doggedly set of V-8s the 4. 6 and 5. 4. I want a truck that has has balls not that sucks balls When I jumped back over to Chevy in 2006 the 5. 3ltr Chevy had a lot more power and was much quicker than the Ford trucks. That is without even considering the 6. 2ltr. Now Ford wants to use to many V-6 engines and to much plastic and aluminum. I would consider the 5. 0 if it runs good or a F250 diesel. My Silverado has 137, 000 on it and it still runs a good a the day I bought it and has the original 6L80 transmission. Only thing I have had to fix is the ball joints and the two front window switches.

I just bought a Z71 with the trail boss package quad cab. I just returned from a trip from Pa to Tx. My son and myself helped my daughter relocate there. ( love Tx. We were stationed at Abilene. Only return to Pa to raise our kids in small town Pa. ) but after the trip i have to say the Z71 drove much better then my 1500 Hemi quad cab. My Z71 Colorado only has 40000 mile. What are the issues you believe i should watch for. I have a feeling one will be the A/C. Because that is the only problem i have had with my 2000 Z28. But she only has 92000 mile on her. Shes my sunday car and sometime go have fun with my 2 sons friends can. Just to show them they still need to do more work. Thanks Rob

Scotty you should warn people about the 4x4 Chevy Colorados front brakes. the rotors come off backwards meaning you have to take the hub off the colorado used to be a popular truck where i lived but dried up FAST my mom had one and when she had to get brakes done it cost a fortune with the labor costs when asked why thats how she found out. she used hers for a motor route the seats wore out, blower had 2 settings off and full blast she got rid of it with 200k with electrical issues but she also pu ALOT of money into the truck it was 2 years old when she got it and she had it for 7 years so it only last 9 years which is pretty decent since she beats the piss out of her cars

Weve had our GMC Canyon (same as Chevy Colorado) for 11yrs and put 106k miles on it. We picked it up for under 13k out the door brand-new and its actually been a really good truck. No problems with engine or transmission. Zero leaks. Great paint quality. The plastics and fit/finish are crap, but the structural build quality is robust. No squeaks or rattles still. The only achilles heel for us has been the brakes. It warps rotors regularly and were having issues with the calipers seizing and the pedal sensitivity being off the charts. Tap the brakes and it locks up the wheels with first brake application after starting the truck.

So my H3 is ok because it is partly Colorado? Well, sort of; I bought a Chilton repair manual for Colorado( there is no such for H3) but some parts of the Colorado are just flimsier and the front end is different completely, some other areas too. But the inline 5 is the same, the transmission and electrics, so it must be good. Even my -93 Caprice was reliable(almost 400000 miles on it when I sold it to next user, so I wonder when GM started to go wrong? My friends Impala SS -96 had never any problems. BTW, the Colorado is more Isuzu: ish than Chevy: ish. That is, if you compare old Chevy trucks and modern Isuzus/Chevys.

I had a 2005 canyon. commuted 100 miles a day and traded it at 115k miles. The trans and engine were strong, 4x4 was awesome (starter failed and left me stranded. But when the abs failed I kept it from 105k - 115k and got rid of it. I daily drive an 2011 x3 28i and the wife a 2013 328i xdrive and they have less problems than any GM car that I ever owned. But bmws are not built equally, the two models I listed with the engine configurations are the more reliable of the brand and thats not saying much knock on wood

Its weird that you have so much trouble with GM stuff. My father has a 2001 Silverado with 255K on it, has never put a wrench on it and he bought it brand new. He had a 1988 CK Silverado and put 463K on it before the engine went out in it. Grandfather put 265K on his 96 CK Silverado before he passed, and my Grandmother sold it. Brother In law has almost 300K on his 96 GMC. I dont think we have all got lucky lol. I have a 2015 Silverado, only with 36K on it, but no problems yet.
