The Truth About Using Fuel Additives in Your Car adilyzer: Hey Scotty, I have a 2007 Honda Accord 4 cyl automatic that just passed 140k miles. Recently the car stalled while driving, which was fun. My independent shop had to replace the CV axle/joint, which was all rusted and broken. Im surprised my shop didnt catch it before it broke. The same week, the check engine light came on. My shop said it was the catalytic converter and not to worry about it in a 12 year old car because it would be a pretty penny. The light magically went away on its own and Im wondering what that means since I have to do emissions soon. Other than that the car seems reliable, but the ride is very harsh. How long should I expect this car to last and what should I do preemptively to make it last longer? I want to keep this thing going as a commuter car (50 miles round trip) for at least 200k miles. Thanks.

All the trucks I owned Ive always used 91 octane and changed my oil every 3, 000 miles, changed coolant every 60, 000 miles, serviced transmission every 100, 000 miles and changed gasket seal / filter, change spark plugs / wires every 100, 000 miles. Ive put over 200, 000 miles on each truck and no engine issues. I did have to replace the ball joints on my old Chevy when I ran over a coyote. The weird part is Ive never had to replace my brakes / rotors, but I used to live in Oklahoma so I basically just slowed down by letting my truck slow down by its own momentum. Ill probably have to replace them at some point since I live in denver now lol.

I use Chevron gas. Always have. Coincidentally I have never had a clogged fuel jet or ful injector. Never. I was always sortof hoping it was due to the fact that I use good gas and replace my fuel filter periodically. Even though I have never had one clog. Am I just lucky? Or should I pull my fuel filters and clean them from time to time? Thank you Scotty Hey Scotty regarding your recent video about your financial managing style. I am happy you planned for your retirement age and had the good sense to learn how to manage money at a young age. I did not. So now I am scrambling to buy a house at 63 years old.

Scotty, I have a question about engine oil. I purchased oil, from my favorite brand (Mobile 1, that says its guaranteed up to 15, 000 Miles. I thought that is a bit of a long shot, but I was hoping to get at least half of that mileage before having to change the oil. Im currently just over 4, 000 Miles and Im starting to see the oil change light come on when I start up the engine cold, but it never stays on for more than 10 seconds or so. All the lights go through their startup cycle normally, but Change Eng Oil stays on a bit longer than the rest. Should I be expecting to change the oil soon?

Hi Scotty, I have a 2014 1/2 ton Chevy Silverado dbl cab w/5. 3L V8, 3. 42 rear gear. I tow a 5500 lb travel trailer. My truck currently has P265/65 x18 tires. I will soon need to be replacing them. I am considering upgrading to LT tires of the same size. Each LT tires is approx 8 or 9 LBS heavier. I also realize I will need to be running LT tires at a higher psi (50 psi) than the P metric 35 psi. Will this additional weight and PSI have a negative effect on the suspension components, ie. bearings, tie rods, struts, life span as opposed to the std tires? Thanks.

I been driving my grandpas 05 kia sportage. And for years they told him he needed a new fuel injector cuz cylynders 3 and 5 misfiring. But when me and him took it to another mechanic he tested and looked at the car it just need new valve gaskets spark plugs and spark pmug wires. Now the car runs perfect no misfire at all. But sometimes the car wont start up right away only on second pull it starts idk if thats alternater or what cuz i just had new battery put in and a positive cable so idk what it could be thats making it not start right up?

Good Lord, one time I mixed two together as I forgot about the first one I put in. It was Gumout and Prestone. Im not sure what the hell catalyst took place, but the engine ran okay while pumping out huge clouds of white smoke. The smoke that settled in the garage rusted all the tools instantly. It was the most caustic thing I ever seen. Well, I had to flush the fuel system of course. The engine seemed okay, but the garage sure was not. I still would like to know what the fuel turned into? I also learned a lesson about mixing anything.

I owned a 92 Buick Century and the struts were completely shot and the rear shocks were completely useless, I drove this car for 100, 000 miles and never had any alignment issues with this car so I can tell you from personal experience that what Scotty is saying about the shocks/struts is non sense. Your Alignment is going to be affected mainly by the Camber/Toe/Castor of your wheels. However it didnt handle very well and that was due mostly to the condition of the shocks/struts.

A BMW parts guy told me that the BMW fuel system cleaner is basically an overdose of Techron, and it actually cleared up some injector problems on my motorcycle. Everything else I tried didnt seem to do anything, so I now shop for PEA. If I dont see it, I dont want to buy it. However, one exception to this was a small glass jar of something I had called Motor PURR or something like that. That cleared something with the injectors on a trip I was on. Glad I took it with.

Hey Scotty, I have 2014 BMW X5 35i, with about 35, 000 miles on it. The car runs great most of the time, but on very cold winter days, the car runs rough at start up. The engine will misfire and even stall. Then after it runs for 30 seconds, its totally fine. The dealership replaced the injectors, and spark plugs, but it still does this. Could this be a faulty high pressure fuel pump? Or posssibly carbon build up on the intake valves. Thanks for all the great videos.
