All of the auto makers are into hi tech racketeering selling specifications and everything else that should be available to and owner upon receipt of said product. They make Nucky Enoch Thompson look like a fine upstanding citizen. Any dealer charging 100 to tell a customer a gas cap is loose in no better than a scammer. If we could buy a 1965 Ford or Chevrolet or Dodge pick- up with a six cylinder and a four speed HD transmission with no power anything and no A C life could be a lot better. Check out the price of anti venom here and in Mexico, 200 vs 18, 000 per unit here (takes 4 to 16 units depending, the same maker and identical product. Barnum Bailey had it named over a hundred years ago.

Since my Toyotas engine has had notorious sludge problems (Youtube has a vintage 90s video about customers suing Toyota for it) in this 1MZ-FE engine I use Castrol that has good sludge protection and change the oil every 3, 000 miles or so. Never had a noticeable problem with oil burning or oil levels dropping. I feel as though Im preventing a sludge problem from ever happening by staying on top of it with frequent oil changes. Maybe Im overdoing it but rather be safe than sorry. The oil and filters are cheap and I dont even have to jack up the car to change the oil because its an 02 (and 94) Camry. I just burn my hand on the exhaust manifold a few times and bam, its done in a snap.

Oil leaks KILL alternators. I was going through alternators for a while in my Celica, and using quality ones with lifetime warranties. I think Ive gotten 10 alternators for free. Heres the thing though. That car was leaking oil for a while. Not much, but I never cleaned it so there was oil on everything for a while. I eventually got tired of my filthy engine bay, and started keeping in clean. As soon as I did that, I stopped losing alternators. Turned out, it was the engine oil that was killing them. After going through these things year after year with the dirty engine bay, I havent had to replace it once after keeping the car clean.

Sorry, Scotty: You cannot: Learn to do all those things yourself (Your Quote. Why? Answer Legal, Accounting, Taxation, or re-stitching your severed finger or pulling out the steel chard out of your eye - Practice of Medicine, etc. Recommendation: Hire the professional, just like you advise in your own videos: certified & licensed & experienced with good recommendations and stick to your personal and professional competencies. Note: Ask the IRS, about all those self-employed people who try to do their own taxes, and lets not forget about the State, the local government, Workers Comp, unemployment, zoning laws, EPA, etc. Shall I go on? Ha Ha

About alternators burning, my 95 Grand Prix went through 3 alternators years ago by the time a friend who was a mechanic discovered the ground cable was terribly loose where it was bolted to the body of the car. It was such a simple fix I didnt know whether to laugh or cry. You know, so happy to solve the problem but yet cry to think of all the money spent on alternators. That cable was so loose it had started to affect the transmission performance from absolute lack of voltage. My friend suspected a grounding problem when he noticed the lighting in the instrument panel was flickering in a weak fashion.

My Mercedes E class Coupe only takes Mobil 1 0w 40 Dexos 2 oil - anything else and the rubber seals can perish, damage to the catalytic converter will occur and the turbos life is significantly shortened. I have absolutely no doubt that Scotty means well but some engines are so advanced that they require very specific fluids and judging by how he answered the question Im not sure that he really fully understands that. All General Motors cars in Europe, Opel / Vauxhall require Dexos 2 oil to be used otherwise like Mercedes they understandably will not honour the warranty.

My Mitsubishi Outlander was supposed to have a bad alternator, but after 1 alternator and 2 batteries the problem was far simpler than that. the ignition key cylinder was stripped out. the part costs was 65 dollars not the 2, 000. 00 the dealership wanted not the 200. 00 dollars the shade tree mechanic wanted. I actually saw the fox on YouTube. They did it it 15 minutes it took. me 45 minutes. sometimes the fox is far simpler if people research it. since that fix Ive never had another problem with the car starting in 4 years.

Hi, Scotty First of all, congratulations for your useful and nice videos I am the owner of a 1989 BMW E30 and have two questions to ask you: 1. I notice that the engine of my car tends to hick up between 2, 000 and 3, 500 rpm. What is the possible cause of it? Could it be a problem related to the fuel pump, perhaps? 2. I have started to use gasohol E20 for my car. Is there any issue connected to using this type of fuel? Thanks for reading my comment Cheers.
