Yep Sell, Sell, Sell, Scotty. I had an oil change outfit tell me my daughter's car needed a transmission fluid and filter change. The dummy told me that's why the starter wouldn't always engage. I had already found the problem. The starter bolts had loosened up. I told him I was a freelance automotive journalist and if he wanted to keep his job he better shut his mouth. That was a bit of a stretch. but I didn't care. We were selling the car. I tightened the starter bolts ( not an easy job. That car is history, as is my relationship with that oil change outfit. We were in a hurry that time. I usually do my own oil and filter changes, ans it's going to stay that way. My son-in-law is pretty good with wrench. I can trust him with that task as I get older. Carry on, Scotty

1998: My dad bought a brand new VW. It was his baby. He took well care of it, and drove a couple thousand miles a year. A very low mileage car. Six years later, he sells the car to my sister. The car still had that brand new smell, driven like new. Sometime later, she's going for a road trip. My dad was busy at the time, so she took the car to one of those big chain repair shops for an inspection. They made her replace all the struts, springs, tires, even though my dad had them all replaced a few months prior. THEY MADE HER REPLACE BRAND NEW PARTS Unfortunately, we only found out about this one year later. Man, we were infuriated, this is wrong on so many levels.

The local dealer ship tried telling me my rear seal was leaking when I took my car in for an oil change, told me it would cost 400 to repair, no they didnt show me, I got the estimate & told them Id be back when I had the funds. I then took my car to a local independent shop and he put my car on a lift, cleaned it iff & told me to return in 2 wks. BTW there was no fluid leakage in my garage floor. In 2 wks I returned & he looked at the rear seal, he saw no leaks. That was 2 years ago. Needless to say I never used the dealer ship again. Crooked

I went to a KIA dealership to have a my car updated its software, it was called a Product Improvement Campaign. This is to be performed for FREE. The service person tried to sell me a cabin filter for CA40 installed, but, I refused as I already have a spare cabin filter ready to be installed. You know that dealership was? It was a DILAWRI owned Kia dealership here in Ottawa, Ontario Canada.

Yes I got scammed by that NTB before long time ago. I spent over a thousand dollar for a brake job and warranty and thought I don't mind to pay few extra for a good service. A year later my brake went out again (brake don't wear out that fast for normal driving. They wanted to charge me another thousand dollar. I showed them the invoice and warranty. The manager then kicked me out of the shop.

Here in the states, NTB, American Tire and auto repair shop, midas, and Mr. tire are scum. I went to Mr. tire to ask why my tires sound flat after going a certain speed, they said your O2 sensor is rotted and leaking your air. They charged 150+. Still have the issue. So I went to honda dealer and they said it's the maker of the tires, they're cheap. So now I gotta buy better tires.

True alot of chains try to upsell because of quotas for stores. Sears got caught doing that. Something that wasn't mentioned regarding tires was the date code and cracks due to age but could have alot of tread left. Tire gauge measured and date code would really prove it was a sham. Some use scare tactics saying its unsafe to drive (Mavis) and they usually target women.

Scotty, I brought my 85 Mercedes 190E into the shop to fix a fuel problem, they charged me 90 dollars to put fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank, and when I asked the mechanic, he said he couldnt find the fuel rail to power clean it and spent an hour doing that, and said spending the time lookin is what mechanics do, is that normal? I feel I got ripped off
