The Safest Car in the World and Why Joe Chief: Scotty thank you for sharing all of the invaluable information you have Its a real pleasure to watch and learn from you On the safety note, Ill take my full size truck over any car any day. Probably cant guess why. Its because Im able to see three/four seconds further in traffic than any car because of the ride height. Seeing whats going on with other vehicles that far ahead gives me a huge advantage and much more time to act vs reacting in a standard height car. I also have used an oversized convex clip over rear view mirror for years. It gives me an entire view out my rear window (vs about half the window with most stock mirrors, wtf ) and also an additional view out the windows of my rear doors downwards. In my opinion, any modern safety feature integrated into todays cars is still no match for the advantageous views I get sitting up that high. If I can (and do) see potentially dangerous situations developing in advance, I can safely avoid them long in advance. Best way to survive an accident is to avoid it, best safety feature in any vehicle is the driver. Keep the great videos coming, love every one of them Rev Up You Engines Brother: )

Scotty, You are the GREATEST I have all three of my daughters watching you now I LOVE your WONDERFUL humor, sandwiched between ENDLESS nuggets of great facts that every driver/home-mechanic should know My daughters need to be kept up-to-speed to maintain their cars and you provide that in SPADES I am a 22 year retired Air Force pilot, and was the Presidential pilot for Johnson and Agnew, and I commend your DEDICATED military service, Scotty I shout-out a BIG Hoo-yahhh to you, Big Guy Keep those instructive-days and other videos coming, PLEASE Ron, in Carmel, Ca. P. S. I have owned the 122S Volvo, 145 Volvo, Corvair Monza turbocharged Spyder, first Honda that had the 2 speed transmission, Tacomas, and Camrys I am a DEDICATED Camry owner FOREVER, Now You are SO RIGHT about the Toyota products, Scotty. I talked to transmission guy who owns a transmission repair shop, and he says that he repairs 10 Honda transmissions to every one Toyota transmission Too bad the Standards are not to be found any more Darn it. I loved THEM Take care

Knock on wood, but I have never hit a car since I started driving almost 40 years ago. HOWEVER, I have had TWO cars totalled. One was by a hit and run driver who rear ended my car when it was parked, but once was by a distracted driver who went through a red light at 30 MPH on a curved street and I was in the middle of a lot of cars going through the green light--so there was no chance to stop or avoid her. She literally knocked my Chrysler Le Baron across the street; the battery was in the street and all the coolant leaked from the radiator. Total loss. Just this morning, a lady drifted across the lanes in front of me because she was trying to read while she was drivingSo. even if YOU are as careful a driver as me, or even more careful, you can still have a major accident. It makes sense to have a car that can absorb collison energy, and also one that can avoid collisions that you wouldnt otherwise. Safety is No Accident.

Im a former truck driver. When I was young I was in shop class, in shop class they teach you all of the different hammers. If my truck or a hammer it would be a sledgehammer 18 tires 80k lbs many truckers get out of the big rig into economy cars because this is all they need, and if a motorcycle wear a hammer it would be a finishing hammer your everyday pickup truck would be like a framing hammer. Each particular task has a particular hammer for a reason. Same thing with vehicles. I see these people that drive these monsters they claim that they drive them for safety and I have to wonder how can you be driving for safety when you saddle yourself with so much debt that you must go to work everyday no matter what no matter what the traffic no matter what the weather no matter what you have to go there. Nope they drive a bigger truck because they have a little dick.

As much as I like Scottys videos, he seems almost clueless when it comes to the topic of safest cars. When the small overlap test was introduced, the only cars that passed it with flying colours were the volvos, and they were models that had already been manufactured for several years by that time, like the first xc90. Other brands, including Lexus, failed MISERABLY. A quizz: which company buys back their cars that have been in actual accidents to analyse them in order to improve their safety? That is one of the reasons why Volvo are still ahead of everyone else in terms of safety, regardless of what Scotty says.

Volvo XC90, all hands down. When the IIHS tested the 2013 XC90 for the drivers side small overlap crash test it passed with a Good Rating, the highest honor you could get. To reflect how safe these vehicles are, from 2003 to 2013 the XC90 is structurally similar, because of this the 2003 model carries the same rating of a Good for the Small overlap crash. A car that can pass a test (with flying colors) introduced almost 10 years after its first production is definitely one of the safest you can buy. The 2016+ models are even more safe

Thanks for the great advice and admonitions you give us from time to time. You have an amazing following because you do an amazing service. When I read the notes below about you being an old man. I am older than you are. I NEVER looked down upon older people. especially the successful ones. I learned from them and have been successful myself. I dont agree with everything you say, but this is America The home of the free because of the brave Thanks Scotty. great job

Toyota&lexus are the best cars in the world till yesterday but not from today because Toyota&suzuki have entered in to an agreement to share their products and Suzuki makes Tim cans which are highly prone to fatal accidents and already Toyota is releasing their first product in India with this alignment called Toyota glanza which is already sold by Suzuki as baleno, which is considered to be the worst car in safety in 20th century.

The 3-point harness design for todays seatbelts was invented by Volvo way back. They could have patented the design meaning other car manufacturers would have to come up with their own design. But. they didnt. They knew their design was going to save many lives because it just worked, so they chose not to patent it, allowing all other car manufacturers to use the design in their own cars. Kudos to Volvo for that one

Automatic braking systems will do two things: make cars more expensive to buy and fix and cause more accidents. People will believe that hey the car will stop for me so I can text more and there will be more crashes. Also, such as the case a few years ago in NYC, when a biker gang attacked the SUV driver and his family, had the SUV had that feature, THEY WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DRIVE AWAY. No thank you
