Scotty, I have a used 2001 Mercedes E320 wagon. It drives very well. However, every once in a few months (winter or summer, it would make a loud metallic noise when I take my foot off the gas while in motion. The noise increases when I step on the brakes and disappears when I step on the gas. It sounds like a loose nut bouncing around fast in an empty metal can. It sounds like it is coming from under the front part of the car. The noise can disappear and not return for months. Recently, I hear it 3 out of of 7 days, but not constantly. It comes and goes, happening maybe once or twice a day but not every day. I had 3 mechanics look at it over the past 2 years that I had it but no one could diagnose it. Of course, the car didnt make the noise for the mechanics. They tell me that they dont see anything wrong and that it is safe to drive. Would you know what it could be? I can send you a video clip so you can hear the sound if that helps. Other than that, the car drives well for an old car, the seat belt light recently went on, the body has some rust spots, and some lights in the instrument panel are no longer work. I dont want to buy another car yet but I would like to know if there is a way to fix that noise problem, would it be worth fixing, is it safe? The noise is so loud that everyone around the car can hear it so its sort of embarrassing. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Love your videos by the way. Thank you for making them. - Jennifer

Dear Scotty, I needed a plow truck so I took your advise on what trucks not to buy and bought a 1988 Ford Bronco with the 5. 0 V8 and it already had a western plow on it that worked great. It isnt an F150, but close enough. It needed the ignition actuator replaced (what a pain) and it needs rear brakes. The truck only has 125K miles on it and it runs strong and shifts great. It does have a couple rot holes in the floor, but the body is nice and has original paint. I plan on cutting out the rot and patching the floors. Everyone overlooked this truck on craigslist because it was way too old and in Massachusetts where rust is king, but I may use it for a third vehicle as well as just a plow rig as it is in amazing shape for something this old. I probably wouldnt have looked at this truck if it wasnt for your video on what the best used trucks to buy are. Even if it never sees the road it will make a strong running plow truck for my property and its fun to mess around with.

1: 19In California, It is against the law to force anyone to get scheduled maintenance done at a dealership in order to keep the manufacture warranty in effect. You can have the car serviced by any Certified mechanic for scheduled maintenance. Just keep your proof of service such as print out documentation of service completed by the mechanic and receipts. The dealership will tell you otherwise in order to get you to purchase their in house Maintenance packages at the time of vehicle purchase such as, car doc by Honda or toyotas toyotacare PLUSEdit: Also in California, you are in fact allowed you do your own maintenance on your vehicle without voiding the manufacture warranty as long as you can provide proof. such as receipts and such. At that point, my personal opinion would be to buy parts directly from the dealer until your manufacture warranty expires. that way they cant really hassle you.

Thanks Scotty, great advice. I just got this 02 Rodeo (1900) wih 140K on it and runs great, just did a tune up on it. The guy was a mechanic, on craiglist, and his wife drove it. Didnt think much of it until I looked at 3 others that were beat-the-hell-up. I like talking to the owners face-to-face to get a feel for their honesty or lack there of. I dont take any bs, any excuses or long winded stories and Im done. But this guy was good, he told me the tranny was acting up but when I drove it, no problems, no codes either. He was honest about it all, I was happy. I buy used cars all the time, so Ive learned to go with my gut, once of Ive checked it all, but I like to look the people in the eye, thats how you know, shady characters wont do this.

I bought my 94 Opel Astra F for 500 euros (roughly 500 dollars) and have been driving it for 4 years without any serious problems. Ive had to fix a few (non-)issues with the suspension (in order to pass the mandatory vehicle inspection) a year ago but other than that Ive7 had to not do anything to it except oil changes and some rust repair. It has almost 300 000 kilometers on it and Ive driven almost 70 000 km of it. Best purchase Ive ever made. I propably keep it as long as it breaks completely and buy a new 500 euro rust bin. The timing belt will propably snap soon but I dont bother changing it. When it snaps I propably try to fix the timing myself. If its too much work I will just tow it to a junk yard.

Can you make a short video of how bad idea to buy the new 2020 Ford Escape. In only 4 years itll worth no more than 7 thousand. Its a Ford and trade value has been historically low. People dont seem to learn from the past. Just the normal human excitement for the new product and then regret follows. There are other brands that retain a very high resale value. Why throw your money on this? Dont you want to have something that it is way easier to sell? And sell it for 26, 000 after 4 years. Get a Toyota SUV with a dynamic resale value. Teach people to look into future resale value. Selling a Ford is a pain. You have to behave like a beggar to sell a Ford. And you lose so much selling your Ford.

Scotty, I have a 2000 Toyota Camry V6 with 200, 300 miles. My 02 Sensor is faulty (Code P0701) The guys from Auto Zone also mentioned it could be the fuel pump or fuel filter. I also have to fix the I two outer tie rods for my front, drivers side tire and get an alignment. A friend of mine who works at a mechanic shop told me he would charge me 850 to fix the sensor, the tie rods and the alignment. Is that a fair price? I also need to fix my emergency break and my AC (only gives hot air though Idk if its because of the sensor. Should I just get another used Toyota for less than 6 thousand?

Scotty, I bought a used 2015 4Runner SR5. In the last few months it has an increasingly loud exhaust leak noise on the drivers side of the motor. I ran my homemade smoker up the exhaust for twenty minutes with no signs of a leak. The noise fades as I get to temp just like an exhaust leak but everyone tells me it is an engine querk eminating from the head. The only change I made related to the motor was an oil change where I used the proper Mobile1 extended life oil instead of Toyotas in house oil. Do you have experience with this?
