That's the trouble with mechanics now days all they are is parts replacers. By the time you drive to the dealership only to find out they don't have the part in stock. And ordering the part will probably take a week or more. Not to mention expense of the part. That cable could have been repaired.

I would have lubricated and adjusted the door so that the latch doesn't have to be yanked on so hard. That's what usually stretches out those cables and breaks them. The door slider tracks are always full of dirt and rocks and spilled soda. The rubber door seals are always sticky too

the the little black locking knob came off of mine do you really have to replace the whole thing just for that or can you just buy a new knob i assume it still works because it did before the knob came off somehow

It is good practice to put a couple of layers of tape over the edge of the door metal where the access hole was punched out because this edge is often VERY sharp and can easily cut one's hand or arm.

I like it when you actually fix stuff as opposed to critiquing the transportation industry, talking about things you've fixed or fielding questions from trolls, nimrods and village idiots.

Had one of these Ford vans for a work truck years ago. That damn assembly broke 3 separate times. The van itself was decent, but that door latch system is a cheap POS.

Pretty good. And it only took 4 minutes, so 100/hr. labor would be less than 7. But if I also had to pay for the 300 for a new latch, I would just leave it.
