One of the reasons that I got my 2019 Nissan 370Z is that Nissan resisted the trend to load up this car with all the latest in high-tech doodads and gimmicks. Nissan was wise, in my opinion, to restrict technological changes to the car to things that would enhance or improve its basic function as a high-performance driving machine. The car has been derided by many enthusiast sites as outdated and lacking in commonplace features, but I don't see the absence of this superfluous stuff as a detriment in how it functions for me as a pure driving machine. One of the benefits of this approach is that the cost of the car has been kept down and the cost of future repair and maintenance will be lower. I just wish that more carmakers could focus their efforts on more purpose-built cars that don't try to be all things to all drivers.

thank you for everything you do scotty You've been a major help to me and I just purchased a 97 toyota camry from a private seller, 180, 000 miles, engine and transmission are in good shape by my estimation, did an oil change and transmission fluid/filter change and I'm working on getting what needs to be fixed taken care of (replaced the radiator already myself with the help of a shady tree mechanic friend of mine) and hoping that this car will last awhile with the needed maintenance. I only drive 65 on the highway I've had bad experiences so far with used cars (my own fault) and am really looking forward to reliable transportation that I can maintain and repair myself.

My wife's cream colored 1996 Lincoln Town Car Cartier is in the shop for a couple of transmission oil drips. It's always been garaged, it's got power everything, 113, 500 miles, paint and leather seats are like new. The shop says the seals are a couple of bucks but the labor will be around 500. They will have it fixed Wednesday. It's got that 4. 6 V-8 engine and is one of the last really full sized tuna boat American cars. She loves it. Hell will freeze over before we pay new MSRP on these plastic, tinny, turbo charged 1. 8 four cylinder EPA chocked mouse engines.

Probably a lot of the auto parts sold on eBay did not pass quality and were thrown in the dumpster. Then dumpster-dived and sold on eBay as new. Yes, maybe new, but may be missing correct washer size, belt is a little oversized, ball joints do not last even a mile drive, color is off. eBay Check fit may also say that the part fits your vehicle, though it doesn't. But if you buy something, ensure you don't need to use the vehicle if the part you buy is bad. Even auto parts stores sell bad parts that don't last even a mile drive.

3: 30 Poor mileage? This woman kept pestering her mechanic, I get lousy mileage. After quite a few inspections, he shook his head in frustration and said, lets go for a spin, drive as you normally do. She takes her handbag and turns a knob and hangs the bag from the dash. Starts the car. He says stop, do you know what that knob is for? She says, the car company is so thoughtful to provide a peg for women drivers to hang their bagsThat's a CHOKE LEVER

People want 5 star safety, electric everything, and every electronic gadget a manufacturer possibly can offer, including self driving. This makes them heavy, complicated. In the same time they must comply with ever tougher emission regulations. Factor in inflation as well. Driving a simple average car is just not cool, and banks happy to lend anyway. I have a new and an old (26) car and planning to keep the older for anoder 20 years, not joking.

I blame the EPA standards. The automakers have the EPA regulations, (along with many other things/laws/regulations, to deal with when manufacturing a car/truck/SUV that restrict and require so much to make it legal to sell. They basically can't keep up. The way I see it, we either need a new fuel source to beat these EPA standards or cars will go back to a higher end luxury that very few can afford.

Odd. More like fantasy land: 50% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, 2 paychecks away from being homeless (governement shutdown amplified that point with government workers. 60% of Americans don't have access to 1, 000 emergency money, 40% don't even have access to 400 emergency (medical, car, etc. so not sure why manufacturers think Americans are rich and can afford expensive products. .
