Two reasons why these and other vehicles made and sold overseas are not going to be imported into the United States. One, all vehicles have to conform with government highway and safety regulations. Essentially just that reason alone will eliminate 99% of cars Scotty has mentioned. Second, other countries use their vehicles as work horses, for example, the Taliban uses their Toyota trucks to fight, kill, and terrorize people. Most of their cars, trucks and motorcycles are junk anyway So, in the majority of countries around the world, their citizens use their vehicles as they're built as they are intended to be used, vice in the United States, our cars and trucks are a part of our lifestyles and culture.

10 years back the two door holden( GM ) commodore called the Monaro, similar specs to the Maloo was being sold in the states as the Pontiac GTO I believe. Hilux and coasters are good machines and are everywhere here in Australia, The early Coaster ran Land cruiser motors which all but a few in this country are diesel turbo. What we don't have are Tundra, Dodge Ram, Ford F series and the Chev trucks, you can import them there are very few, we can't afford to keep pouring the gas into them at A 1: 60 a litre depending on location. . A nice new 4x4 Hilux dual cab will cost somewhere in the range of 50 to 60 thousands and a top of the range landcriuser you can double that. Maybe we just can't afford them.

I would like to see Russian trucks imported into the USA. I want a UAZ 452. It's a 4 wheel drive mini-van. They are made to be worked on by the average person. They come with two manuals, an operators manual and an official factory service manual. The tool kit it comes with has every tool needed to work on it. The body has been in production since the 1940's so body repair parts are super easy to get (in Europe. The modern engines have OBD 2 and fuel injection. It would be an instant hit with the off road crowd. I suspect their would be long waiting lists to purchase them for whoever managed to get them imported into North America.

Scotty, the wife and I are moving to South Africa and are considering purchasing a used, low mile Hilux or the Fortuner, which both have the V6 engine and Diesel D4D options. What engine would you recommend? Anything I should keep in mind or look out for with each engine option long term? Also, I like to work on my own cars but am not too familiar with diesels, but willing to learn. Would I be too over my head if I took that on?

Trust me you don't want the Hilux in America. For some reason 99% of people that own them in Australia think they're king of the road and will tail gate you as closely as possible, even when traffic is packed and you can't even go faster or move out of the way I'm sure Scotty the mad lad would be in that 1% though.

I own a 2008 44 Toyota Hilux, and was equally given same brand as a field engineer down here in Nigeria. That vehicle is arguably the MOST reliable vehicle in this country. No wonder it's a major hit with private companies, Federal and State Govt Agencies, the security services and the armed forces in particular.

Nothing much.
We have the MG ZS in the UK. They're definitely aimed more at the budget end of the market. Small little engines with little power for a larger vehicle. They are cheap cars and it is evident. I was looking at an MG owners forum thread, where there were photos of a 7 month old car beginning to rust

If they import toyota Hilux to US, will be the end of all working pickup trucks in the US. Scotty, you have no idea what FOREVER mean until you drive one of those. Some rental companies even use up to 50k miles on those cars without even changing the oil. Just because it can take the abuse.
