Ray Spencer: Re: email links and protecting your shit. A. If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is. 4500. 00 seems very high. Also no reputable company will have punctuation or spelling errors in their email. One drawback for people who do not know correct spelling or punctuation, they can't detect this. B. Email links are the number one way the bad guys use to get into your computer. C. Never leave your back up drive attached to your computer. Ransomware will also encrypt the connected drive as well as your computer. D. One back up is not considered a backup. Have a second backup. Best practices, store the second backup offsite, in case of fire or other major catastrophe. E. Cloud backup should not be your primary backup but as a secondary it's not terrible, just not as good a using two hard copies. Cloud is great as a third backup. F. Clone or do a system backup (not just your files) of your main computer(s) on a regular basis. Clone is better, you can be up and running very quickly, and sometimes system backups fail. G. Research yearly(because they do change, and buy the best paid anti-virus available. Combine the anti-virus program with Malwarebytes paid version for maximum protection. H. Consider learning how to use a sandbox, which is a virtual machine, this contains the bad shit where it can't hurt you. I. Also consider investing in a VPN. This will not help with opening bad email attachments but is extremely valuable when using your laptops or phones in public wireless networks to prevent bad guys from getting your banking passwords etc. J. Use a password manager, to avoid having to type in your passwords while using public networks. These steps are for those of you who cannot afford to lose your shit. Cheers. Date: 2019-10-19
