TRAIN DRIVER'S VIEW: Snow piercing madness! - RailCowGirl

This video is a compilation of the snow piercing madness from the video Stormy Conditions on the mountain pass. Behold the Norwegian railroad engineer's excellence in getting the train through and for keeping the mountain pass open for traffic. The conditions on the Bergen Line can be very challenging. When the roads are closed the train continues to operate as if it was normal service as usual. The weather on the mountain pass can be very unforgiving. It puts all other European railroad systems to shame! My original Video

Why, madness. There are several consecutive seconds where you can even see at least one Rail.
: -)
By the way, to put our German Railways to shame is easy; our common joke at work is, sorry we're late today but a single snowflake stood upright on a track switch.
Thanks for the compilation!

Not to be snarky, but this is simply bad design. I can think of half a dozen, even attractive on an aerodynamic body, simple ways to deflect the stuff from the windshield. Are you certain the designer was scandinavian? Norsk design follows function and this is not functional.

Great videos. I like to play them in the background while studying or just thinking. What amount of snow would it take to cause a derailment? Im guessing it would be something the pilot couldnt deflect and would cause the locomotive to ride up and over the snow maybe?

I loved watching the video, but when it finished I almost had frostbite! :) HinduCowGirl, how cold do you get when you drive a train like this? Do you have to bundle up & wear gloves, a hat, and boots to keep warm? Or is there plenty of heat in the driver's seat?
reply

Fantastic images, just stunning scenery and all that smashing through the snow is actually fun to watch, the sudden blindness notwithstanding. How is speed managed in those conditions? Is it set by control or is it up to drivers discretion?
reply

WOW, that is (at times) deeply unsettling - to lose vision through the windscreen when travelling at speed. You have my sincere admiration for having the skill, knowledge and experience to cope with driving the train under those conditions.

Ms. HinduCowGirl can you give us some details on this train, where it runs and how would you go about actually buying a ticket and taking a ride on it. Thanks. Great videos, thanks for posting them for us snow and train starved Americans.

I hope that none of those picture window sized windshields/ windscreens has ever been stove in from hitting a snow drift. That could become extremely unattractive, very rapidly ( It could get ugly, quick)

It amazes me how you keep going through such bad snowfall, Everything her in Uk Stops when it gets really heavy snow. maybe they need to come and see how you do it. Really loved it
reply

Wow. I have never this much snow. Being from the deep south, the amount is unbelievable and scary. We get a sprinkle every two or 3 years and we get so excited
