Once again the Alexandra Palace exhibition lived up to the high expectations set by previous shows, with an excellent array of layouts, big, small and everything in between. All the major players in the industry were present, showing their latest models and offering an insight into their future products, although surprisingly one of the country-s most numerous trains is still not represented in model form, the Bombardier -Electrostar-. All aspects of the hobby were covered, new and second hand models, building a layout, scenery, electronics, digital control, scratch and kit building rolling stock. The standard of the layouts on show were of the highest order, offering modellers a massive array of ideas to include in their own projects. Please see the list of layouts featured below: 01: 03 - Hambleden Valley - Gauge -G- 03: 03 - The World's End - Gauge -OO- 07: 02 - Brighton East - Gauge: Gauge -EM- 07: 58 - Cheffley - Gauge -OO- 09: 23 - Durham Road TMD - Gauge -O- 11: 50 - Fort Myers Florida USA - Gauge -HO- 12: 41 - Dettingen - Gauge -HO- 14: 52 - (TMC) The Model Centre - Locomotives for sale 15: 26 - Connoisseur Wrenn - Wrenn specialist 15: 45 - Grantham - The Streamliner Years - Gauge -OO- 20: 18 - Binns Road (Toys of Yesteryear) - Scale -O- 22: 49 - Calcutta Sidings - Gauge -P4- 23: 13 - Llangerisech - Gauge -2mm FS- 23: 46 - Portsea - Gauge -TT- 25: 02 - Up the Line - Gauge -O-16. 5- 26: 47 - Bluebell Cutting - Gauge -N- 28: 20 - Mostyn - Gauge -P4- 33: 15 - Hebble Vale Goods - Gauge -EM- 33: 57 - Saltdean L. A good show, with some nice layouts. However the number of layouts that are regressing in operational methods back to the level of -a toy train set-, with roundy-roundy behaviour is concerning! I'm guessing these are layouts that have made the mistake of using DCC, which unfortunately was never designed with prototypical operation in mind, and this is revealed when you try using this overpriced equipment on an exhibition layout!

42. 07 You forgot to label (and show movement) on the -Pacific Electric-. It may have been a misunderstood stereotype, but I suspect no other layout there had trolley pole overhead. And modelling the Pacific Ocean and the home of the -Beach Boys- on a table top is quite an achievement. And for those who don't know, the PE prototype was a lot bigger than the UK Southern Electric.

here's several things for diy railroad layout construction
Find a proven set of plans online
Find a mate who wants to build one too so you have someone to encourage you
(I read these and why they work from Jareks Hobby Club website )

Hi Tim. Thanks for the usual high-quality; almost makes up for the fact that I couldn't get there this year. Good to meet you a couple of weeks ago. I'll take you up on your offer to see your works sometime. Look after your knees.

Scale, the relative size or extent of something. Gauge, the distance between the rails of a line of railroad track. You can have HO scale trains run on N scale track for example so that would be narrow gauge, not 'n gauge'

14: 53 I don't know if TMC reworked any other Jubilees into Atlas but if they didn't then that 5737 right there is currently being displayed on a shelf in my home. Very pleased with my purchase.

Excellent show, top of its class! Been there in 1989. Unforgettable. Particularly the non-standard scales/gauges and past-era british settings! Amazing works of art. Thanks for sharing this!

Gosh Tim you braved going all the way to London for this video? I enjoyed all the layouts, some are works of art, the painted backdrops, especially the ruined castle and the matching viaduct!

Excellent exhibition. sorry I could not make a visit. My favourite was Grantham - The Streamliner Years. quality filming with no music to spoil the enjoyment. Well done.

Rather nice, but I think it will take another 20 years till the quality of German model railroads (and equipment) will be reached. Sorry thats fact.

The sandstone bridges and castles are fantastic, had to remember that it is a model train set also. Top display, thumbs up to all involved.

18: 47 HAh! There's Tony Wright (first one sitting)! I came to admiring him over here in Los Angeles, via his well made videos.

I love model railways-- I love railways. They are amazing. Riding on steam trains. Hope the new generation will love it too.

A lot of layouts with gauges I-ve never heard of, at least here in the states.
Great video of some really nice layouts.

Some great inspiration here. I spotted the Bayko building sets in the Binns Road Layout. I have my father's old one.
