Part 1 - U. S. Steel (Ko-ice) to Budkovce. More amazing rail action on this extraordinary RTC tour of Slovakian railways. Broad gauge, standard gauge, parallel running next to our Grumpy Diesel, a massive twin unit electric freight locomotive and a diminutive DMU. This is one of the most unusual rail tours I-ve ever had the pleasure to be part of. Join the crew in the cab of a powerful twin unit Skoda electric locomotive to be part of this unlikely cavalcade, starting out from the U. S. Steel works near Ko-ice and finishing up close to the Ukrainian border. The Kosice - Uzhhorod railway is a single-track 1520-mm (Russian Gauge) railway located mostly in eastern Slovakia. It is used for transporting iron ore from the Ukraine to the steel works near Ko-ice. For much of the route it runs in tandem with the standard gauge railway serving the towns and villages along the way, over a significant part of our journey the two different gauge lines are operated as parallel single tracks, giving this almost unique opportunity for the two trains to run side by side. Cool video Tim, especially when the standard gauge train kept running parallel to our broad gauge train till a certain point. One of the passengers of that train kept leaning out of the window. Possibly just to take pictures with his camera. Very dangerous to lean out the window like that. When will you upload the second part? Am looking forward to seeing it.

Smooth trip. Remided me of rail trips in UK paralleling the motorway trips, and the old advert -Cars going backwards? No it's just that you are going forward faster! - or words to that effect! :) Back the same way? It would be interesting to see the seting up of the camera for the filming.

The battle of the gauges! Broad gauge loco overtakes Standard gauge loco, then standard passes broad. and on it went until finally the Broad gauge loco won out. Whew! Nice one, Tim!

The rough trolley cable and many refreshments almost at each pillar means 3kV DC for a heavy load, which is adequate for heavy and long trains of iron ore.

Would-ve been better if the camera had been set in the dead centre of the screen, still an enjoyable journey many thanks. -
